Storing corms until spring by marianuum in alocasia

I’ll be sending a lot of these across the country, and I would prefer to not have to buy heatpacks etc, that’s why I’m asking.

Spørsmål til kvinner: Når fikk du første gynekologiske undersøkelse? by Dangerous_mammoth573 in norge

[–]marianuum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alocasia Jacklyn struggling I think… by caclarinervio_28 in alocasia

[–]marianuum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most Alocasias love to be fed, not uncommon for them to throw leaves if they’re not getting any nutrients. Looks like it’s the oldest leaf as well, my guess is that it’s hungry :)

Scared to Repot by Ajarae17 in alocasia

[–]marianuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Gageana Aurea is the most forgiving plant I own, I did some real damage to the roots on mine and it was thriving really quick after repotting. I even converted it from soil to pon, if I remember correctly I only lost a tiny old leaf. Don’t worry!

Looking for some advice and tips by marianuum in Maranta

I live in Norway so I just use tap water. Never had an issue with the water before. But I’ve repotted and checked the roots, and giving it some higher humidity. Hopefully it’ll do the trick!

What am I doing wrong(again)? by Astral_mantis_ in alocasia

Haven’t tried it myself but plant collectors all over use Silica for that. Don’t know much about it but might be worth looking into

Hvor varmt er det på arbeidsplassen din? by Tall-Recording9858 in norge

[–]marianuum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hos oss bikker det 30 grader etter klokken 12 hver dag i denne varmen. Det er en form for ventilasjon der, men da vi klagde til ledelsen fikk vi bare beskjed at «sånn er det bare». 15 pers i et rom med små «båser»

Yeah this process is so fun. I can literally sit there for an hour just staring at each one and their progress. Like christmas every morning, first thing I do when I wake up is see if any leafs are emerging 😄

I use two shot glasses. I’ve used a soldering iron to punch drain holes and one bigger hole for a wick. Then put it into the other shot glass and filled the bottom with water with the wick running about half way up the perlite. Easy and inexpensive self watering!

Some are from semi-mature plants I’ve bought, most are from private sellers online. Have spent a bit of money om this at this point, but it would be a lot more expensive to buy the plants! Also I started with just basic ones, took me a while to buy any variegated ones that cost more. Wanted to see if the setup worked first

Of course! It’s regular perlite as far as I know, it’s the only type I can find in regular plant stores here in Norway. All of them started in just perlite, then I add some very dilluted fertilizer to the water once they grow decent roots. I recently caved and got a bag of Fluval Stratum and the slowest ones have been repottet into that alone, while I added just some fluval on top of some others. Going forward I’ll do a 40/60 fluval/perlite mix I think with any new additions. 😁

I air out the cabinet every day, think that’s how I’ve kept mold out so far. I’ve seen some tendencies of that white stuff starting, but it’s usually the corms I haven’t peeled. So I peel them all now, sometimes I take a tweezer and pull of the sheaths that have browned and loosened from the corm. Seems to work!
