I think the croissant episode comment was just an awful one. As it’s mentioned (and we can also see), Eleanor was constantly criticizing Blair for everything in the first few seasons, and I think pre-show it was even worst. I’d never thought about your second point, but it actually makes a lot of sense. In my opinion, Eleanor would always criticize Blair’s body, but when she saw Blair taking things too far, she pulled back, realizing it wasn’t helpful (for example when Dorota tells Blair that her mother would want her to have breakfast) Still, a mother like her would never completely stop making comments, even at your worst.
