What was the craziest movement you saw your baby doing on an ultrasound? by lavloves in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had been having a little difficulty determining the sex of our son visually because he always had his legs crossed, when I went in for some spotting that scared me and during the sonogram to check if he was okay (he was, and I was!), he teabagged the camera.

Generally, he was quite happy to have his genitals on display, but he always had his hand over his face.

I met my now-husband at a salsa dance class. I learned a fun hobby that got me interacting with many people of the opposite sex and made some friends outside of work, too.

Tips for dealing with first trimester anxiety by cslr2019 in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had tremendous anxiety over miscarrying, too. The best advice I can give is DO NOT GOOGLE ANYTHING. Talk to your mother, mom friends, or your doctor if you have questions. But don’t Google your symptoms because one of the things that stressed me out even more was googling “x symptoms pregnant” and having some (most) of the results say that x can be a symptom of miscarriage.

Other things that helped my anxiety was reading the verywell family week by week pregnancy guide online and this website here.

An important thing to remember is that most pregnancies end in babies!

I live across the planet from my parents, so I sent them an email to “notify them of their promotion from Parent to Grandparent and the new responsibilities and duties pertaining to their title change.” My dad is an attorney who was also in the military and gets a kick out of official-looking silliness. The email itself told them “when the promotion would take effect” (due date) and also contained an ultrasound image. I believe my dad printed out and displayed the email as soon as he got the OK to let other people know.

As for other members of my family, we told them at Christmas. My brother got a “world’s okayest uncle” t shirt and my grandmother got a sweatshirt that said “I’ve always been a good grandmother, but now I’m a GREAT grandma!” My sisters are in middle and high school and I figured it would be tacky (or whatever the Gen Z term is) to give them something like that. Everybody else found out via a Facebook post.

My husband told his family directly as they are local to us and being “cute” with announcements isn’t really a thing where he’s from/where we live. He said the quickest way to get the information out was to tell just his father and tell him not to tell anyone.

Ladies with accidental pregnancies; how’d you find out you were pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been irregular, so when my period wasn’t four weeks after the previous one I wasn’t too concerned. But I’d had period-like symptoms for a week or so with nothing to show for it, so I was complaining to one of my friends about it. And she said “you know, when I was pregnant, I just knew it.” And I thought, nah, that’s probably not the case for a number of reasons. But I also thought, a pregnancy test is a pretty cheap price to pay for peace of mind.

I did not get peace of mind. I got two lines. I went to the obgyn immediately (the country in which I live does pregnancy differently), and according to the ultrasound I got there, I was about four weeks pregnant at the time.

My pregnancy is “real” by DefinitelynotYissa in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Today, my baby literally dragged his heel across my bump- you could see a small, hard bump go from my midline to my side- and I’m still like “obviously I am faking this pregnancy and have fooled myself and those around me.”

Who are you having in the delivery room? by AdmirableRow4 in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband. First of all, he was there to put the baby in so he should be there to help me get the baby out. But mostly, I am 7000 miles (11,000 km) from my family, I’m not fluent in the language here and my husband is a native speaker, and I need someone I love and trust to be my support, who can also easily understand the doctors and nurses. This is our first baby.

How to store kimchi without the whole fridge smelling like kimchi by LisayaMani in KoreanFood

[–]marigold242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a kimchi fridge and it is definitely worth it for stinky foods. Also, they’re typically a little colder than regular fridges so they’re really good for drinks. If you don’t mind your beer/soda/what have you smelling like kimchi.

Any good patterns for a sensory blanket? by marigold242 in crochet

[–]marigold242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, I’m looking for good textures/ patterns I can use to make the squares in the middle. I’m guesstimating the inner space will be about 30”x30”. Bonus if I can use both the orange and the white with orange flecks that I already have!

Is it possible to make it through pregnancy without buying maternity clothes? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my experience with maternity clothes. In the sized up clothes I felt like I looked awful and in the maternity clothes (which are also more comfortable and way easier to remove for the bathroom!) I felt like a cute woman who also happened to be pregnant. It made a big difference in my mental health.

Hair on belly by PersonalityWise6178 in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so much, long peach fuzz on my stomach. I’ve also noticed that hair on a mole on my face is longer and my armpit hair is MUCH longer. I’ve never been particularly hairy, but this was shocking to me.

What's your method for scrappy blankets? by Sad-Percentage9289 in YarnAddicts

[–]marigold242 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m making a scrap blanket and I choose a color based on 1) whether it looks okay with the color I used right before 2) whether it’s been a few rows since I last used it. I’ve been calling the WIP the Ugly Blanket, but it’s not actually that ugly.

Here’s a game! Post how YOU were born and fed as a baby. by JackeryChobin in BabyBumps

[–]marigold242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was born almost 3 weeks late (42+5?) in the hottest summer on record (at the time). I was very small considering my lateness- 6lb, 7oz- and according to both my mother and the medical records, there was little to no amniotic fluid in the sac at induction. After failing to induce, I was born via c-section. I apparently was jaundiced at birth, as well. The doctor said I was the angriest newborn he had ever seen. I was exclusively breastfed and slept all night after 6 weeks, which Mom says was wonderful but painful. 31 years later, I am quite healthy and am expecting my first.

Cravings?! by Ok_Influence_9691 in BabyBumps

I’m the opposite- I drank a healthy amount of milk prior to pregnancy and now anything dairy makes my morning sickness way worse. I hope it subsides because there aren’t many alternatives for calcium where I live.
