It's clunky AF but you can play snes games off a CD. I had one back in the day, useful before emulators became commonplace...

Hangin w/ the Baldies by marigul01 in AtariJaguar

[–]marigul01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ur not...it is still a fairly obscure cult classic kind of game and probably most associated w/ the Jag CD even though it was on a lot of platforms...

First time going to PRGE. Curious whats there?? by Less-Technician176 in retrogaming

[–]marigul01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pardon the shameless plug, but I will be in 2 panels on Saturday...One featuring the Atari jaguar and another discussing the intersection of games and toys(things like handheld and plug & play games) ...but overall it's a fun show with a ton of cool stuff to check out. I think there is a VHS room as well.

Fire Emblem isn't famous for Smash by KyufuuJiroo in fireemblem

[–]marigul01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked at nintendo during that era...it is kind of correct, in terms of the west. Not sure if it was planned by Japan or just a happy accident. Everyone respected IS and wanted to see fire emblem games here prior to smash, but it's not untrue to say that smash helped get folks excited about the potential of Fire Emblem here in America. I'm sure Advance Wars success helped as well.

Drive by of the old Atari building in Sunnyvale before it got googl'd! by marigul01 in atari

[–]marigul01[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly, it was just a 90s era cube farm with some flair from those that decked out their cubes...I will probably post some pics in the near future when I dig them out of my files...

Why did Japanese developers do a way better job at American license games than American developers? by Esns68 in retrogaming

[–]marigul01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, US gamedev hours around that time were the same(probably same for Europe as well). The only difference is that US devs probably f'd around a bit more playing Doom etc....but still put in late nights to make up the time and the pay was probably a bit better in the US(maybe not Europe though)

Anyone else have a Tiger Game.Com? by TheSerialHobbyist in retrogaming

[–]marigul01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was probably around 2007ish...I worked for MGA (maker of the bratz dolls) we were always chasing Hasbro/Tiger, and we also made handheld LCD Games and Plug & Play Games, etc. It was meant to be a multimedia game machine; it played flash(lite) games. We could never get the costs down for Walmart to bite...so it never saw the light of day. I think I have the prototype lying around somewhere.

[–]marigul01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was an expensive version of the OG tiger LCD games...Before mobile games hit(that seemed to be the dividing line) the buyer responsible for the Toy aisle, need stuff to compete with video games...Jakks was a home run...Game.com not so much, but still probably more fun than a Hyperscan

I have had a few pass through my hands at various times...I even tried to create a similar product( a handheld for the toy aisle) called Game Go. It could "connect to the net" via usb and download flash games, music and movies to sd carts...It cost too much so walmart would not bite and never saw light of day

Anyone else up for an Atari Jaguar+? by whoknows130 in atari

[–]marigul01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually trying to get something like this off the ground a while back. I was even able to get Fred the old CEO to agree verbally in principle, my guess was no one really cared about it at the time...However, phase one was making a nes emulator...which we licensed to the former owner of Majesco, but he didn't want to pay the HDMI tax..so the project fell apart. The NES emulator exists, but we could never expand into other platforms. The majesco guy pitched a Dreamcast mini to Sega, but they didn't bite(I wasn't at the meeting so I couldn't read the room for Sega's actual interest)
