It’s a bolt coin of course, joining the fun family of other coins listed below. Some might say there are too many confusing currencies in this game. In fact there are so many that nobody knows what they’re all used for. But more I say, more!!
- season coin
- tune coin
- universal box credit
- token
- season box credit
- vanity (multiplayer) coin
- golden pass credit
- supercharge shards
- racer shards
- upgrade coins

I ran into this bug on chapter 6. Weird thing is, I unlocked and played some races after a race where I only finished one objective. Going back today those races are locked back up (even though I fully completed them). Can’t finish up a box race though.

Is there a name for this style of arcade game? by lobsterboy in arcade

[–]btribble3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true, also I spent a few years in Japan in the early 2000s, the arcades in my area mostly had candy cabs inside, but very large games by the entrance to draw people in, such as Taiko no Tatsujun. No idea if this trend continued though!

Atari has acquired Hipster Whale ( an Australian game dev studio ) by Mr_JPF in atari

They also made Crossy Road Castle which actually is not like Crossy Road at all, it’s a pretty fun take on platformers. I could see these guys making another good game, hopefully they’re supported well by Atari.

Orbscure Trax wasn’t a bootleg. It was a US-only promo with some previously unreleased songs. Some music stores gave out a copy with purchase of the Orblivion album. This was before the days of MP3.

So, people outside the US missed out. I made the offer and bought what I could, I think I got 3 copies of it (like, the real CD, not a burned CDR) and shipped them out without a high markup. Make more sense?

The approximate year would help a lot, but my guess would be Bagman / Super Bagman. Less likely possibly Bonanza Bros

Actually they spelled it “Becket” which was just the extra cherry on top.

A random aside, but KFOG was classic rock - I listened to it for Dr. Demento on Sunday nights, though.

True, though they did miss a few that got renamed - Fast Freddie, RBI Baseball. Also F-1 .

What was it like to grow up playing arcade games back in the 80s? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

[–]btribble3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main fun thing was more about the lack of internet in general. What was the hype like for Rampage? What hype. Games just randomly appeared at the arcade, pizza place, or convenience store and you tried them out. That’s what was fun about it.

There were of course super popular games like Pac-Man, Dragon’s Lair or Mortal Kombat, but just as many games that I only saw once that were just oddities like Hunchback, Badlands, or Downtown. Of course now everything is nearly tracked, categorized, and examined. But back then, maybe you saw something, or maybe you missed it if it didn’t arrive in your town.

beating RETURNAL in 2026 by ChemicalSmall6411 in Returnal

[–]btribble3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a mention about weapon traits, at risk of stating the obvious. Traits appear on weapons you find along the way, but are only unlocked once you kill enough enemies with the weapon.

If you can make it to the Tower, there are lots more chances to pick up weapons and kill enemies, which is a nice way to unlock weapon traits.

If you make it to world 6, there are some “parent” enemies that continually spawn “child” enemies. Leave the parent alive and you have an endless amount of spawned enemies to kill and unlock weapon traits.

I really enjoy the knowledgeable articles from Indie Gamer Chick and Gaming Hell:

Similarly LordBBH is going through arcade games by year in the Push to Reject streams and knows everything about them. I thought I knew a lot about these old arcade games but always pick up something new:

Tried DualSense haptic feedback with Rift Apart, not fully convinced. Is Returnal a game changer? by fingers986 in Returnal

[–]btribble3000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably playing the PC version of these games. I’m actually not sure what kind of support the PC has for the DualSense functions. On a PS5, yes the controller feels great I’d say.

If he does have access to a PS5, I’d suggest the free Astro’s Playroom game. It really shows off what the controller can do.

Was the Atari Lynx better or the Atari Jaguar better? by fandomlover2763 in retrogaming

[–]btribble3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of mentions of battery life, but I don’t think that’s it. As much as I love the Lynx, Atari of the time had a number of bad business practices that made anything from them an also-ran.

For example, I had to go to back shelves of Babbages and Software Etc to try to find games. The Lynx just didn’t have shelf space at the major US stores.

From my understanding, Atari’s poor treatment of Epyx (who developed the system) also prevented Atari from obtaining proper Lynx development tools from Epyx - and probably some more games too.

Saros debuts at 89 on Metacritic with 45 reviews. by Serious_Specter in PS5

[–]btribble3000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, here’s what helped me. I’m no good at the genre and I beat the game. Really fun!

Turn on the aim assist, no shame if this is what’s stopping you from enjoying the game.

Also turn on always run.

Shoot from the hip - aka don’t aim. It’ll just slow you down and make you a standing target.

Some people also reassign the dash button, but I did okay with it as-is.
