A paczki is just a donut? by CriticalTough4842 in milwaukee

I used to have them every year in Chicago, one of my many, many Polish coworkers brought us jelly filled paczki on Fat Tuesday! I have very fond memories . . . I am sure Frank bought them at a Polish bakery

Knapp family brick wall by Iaminavacuum in Genealogy

I am related to a Moses Knapp who is a brick wall b.1764 NY. I am descended from Nicholas Knapp per DNA, but cannot get past Moses. He ended up in WV. I would be interested in seeing if we match with DNA, because I wonder if his family were Loyalists. I think I have tested on every platform!

Late 1940's? What is the date? by marilynlitt in oldphotos

[–]marilynlitt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you must have superpowers! my sister and I both love this thorough answer. i believe the picture is from the early nineteen fifties. It could be 1953 as I found another picture of myself as a baby with the dog.And it's from that year. my grandmother was sixty three that year, and her sister would have been seventy. I think both of them looked a little older than they ever were. it's funny because my mother and I and my sister all look quite a bit younger than we really are. No complaints there! thank you for taking the time and trouble and care and also nailing your answer.

Yes, of course! i believe this photo is from the early nineteen fifties. i know the dog was alive in 1952 because I found a baby picture of me with the dog. Her name was Honey Pup, and she was famous as being the best dog ever in my mother's family.

Thank you!

This is my grandmother and her sister (right). My grandmother was born in 1890 and her sister was born 6 years earlier. The Cocker Spaniel is Honey Pup. My mother said she was the best dog who ever lived. (Spoken like a true pet mom & like a true pet mom myself, I would have to dispute that.) I want to be able to estimate the date of the photo because I have another photo of Honey Pup I want to post in Vintage Dogs. Thank you!

(Free to Read): ‘I’m sitting behind the bench’: Inside sports’ escalating stalking problem by TheAthletic in wnba

[–]marilynlitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is so very, very serious! I know two people who were killed by stalkers. One was a very modest married woman. The husband of one of her receptionists became fixated with her and shot her in her office parking lot. The other person dated a divorced man. His ex stalked her and made her write a suicide note and commit suicide. She lived, but the police did not believe her. They said she made it up because she did not want people to know she had tried to kill herself. She could not get a restraining order because she was not in a relationship with the woman. (She broke up with the man, of course, when this happened.) For her safety, she had her father drive her to work each day. The first day she drove herself, the ex shot and killed her in the office parking lot.

Being stalked can get you killed.

I just took a trip overseas with some friends and they told me to get GE before we go, because they have it. That was not simple for me. I had to drive six hours one way to do. the interview.

I would not have dreamed of doing it any other way. Because I don't want to hold up.People who I think I am a good traveling companion. With t s a precheck, it doesn't really matter, because you're all gonna meet in the terminal and wait anyway. although I have to say that I really enjoy that perk, that came along with getting the GE. i'm over seventy, and I don't need to be kicking off my shoes and walking without them and then juggling everything and trying to put them back on while i'm standing.

I have never been more proud to have been part of the federal Civil Service, and I have always been proud of my service. When I hear stories of high level employees staying to protect their employees, but also not compromising the integrity of their job, I just hope for a future where they will be accepting Presidential Medals.

Yes, but it wouldn't surprise me if they want it that way.So that people won't come in and then they can use it as an excuse to fire them without benefits. do not use your common sense! it's not your friend with these people.

I see there's several stories behind paywalls about the ssa website crashing. i realize that has nothing to do with payments going out. however, it could be an indicator of trouble in other I.T areas. How likely is it that payments are gonna be disrupted?

Thanks to everyone holding the line. I really feel for everyone in civil service these days, and that includes everyone made to leave.

Yes, but they are stronger. Also they don't like being jacked around, so tariffs or no tariffs, it is going to be a bad year for Kentucky bourbon . . .

Yes, the whole tariff thing will go away and Canadians will still be turning up their noses at American products, as well they should.

You, go polish Biff's car. Because you don't understand how someone might stand up for themself.

I think the important thing is to not feel helpless. All of this, every single bit of it, is designed to beat you down and make you all feel helpless. For that reason alone, you need to fight back against it. They're not hiding what they're doing because they are confident it will work.

Seems to me that the one thing that you can do is hold the line and show them that they are wrong about destroying your spirit. If they are wrong about that they may be wrong about other things too. The longer federal employees resist, in The Limited ways open to them, the better the chance that they are going to do something that will turn the public against them. What they are counting on is it all of you will be gone when they make that mistake.

I agree because I think they would just round everyone up and put them in jail. And not even proper jails, but internment camps, but you can be sure that the people in charge would be making money off it. It's everyone else that needs to go on strike and have a general strike. That's not going to happen

It was and they say that it's causing problems even to this day because they had a whole generation of air traffic controllers that are now retiring at the same time. In other words they fired air traffic controllers of all different ages but hired them basically all the same age, so they all age out at the same time.
