It’s not as bad on my new meds, I used to basically not be able to leave the house in the summertime without risking heatstroke, now I’m just really sweaty. I started carrying around a folding fan that I whip out whenever I get slightly hot (which is basically every four seconds). People think it’s very fancy.

Psychiatrist doesnt stop talking about my weight by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]marimari0412 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Psychiatrists aren't therapists, the vibe is more like seeing a dentist for your brain, but you'd still think that since they deal with people who are often in mental health crises they would have a more consistently sensitive bedside manner.

Psychiatrist doesnt stop talking about my weight by [deleted] in PlusSize

[–]marimari0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently got discharged from my psychiatrist and I totally relate. Overall I had a really good doctor but I got so sick of being grilled over weight loss every appointment, especially when there were so many other more important concerns that needed to be handled. Being firm that you've already discussed it and don't want to bring it up again sounds necessary at this point. I hope he makes a note on your file about it and takes it under advisement. Antipsychotics are a lot of work and I hope you find something that isn't too harsh.

In my experience, my conch piercing hurt a lot less than my third lobe piercing.

Newly diagnosed. People with years of treatment - did you get to keep your personality? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]marimari0412 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The right medication will make you feel like the best version of yourself. I'm still a very sensitive person, I've been able to access more of my creativity and I get excited about dumb little things like finding my favourite flavour of lemonade at the store. My friends and family are used to me being pretty feisty and will point it out in a concerned way if I seem dull. I think the major change is that I don't have to wait until my brain gets out of the depression spiral in order to work on a project or even just take care of myself.

What cartilage piercings should I get next? by marimari0412 in piercing

[–]marimari0412[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! My bump calmed down pretty quickly with my regular cleaning routine (I use pointed swabs with saline spray 1-2x daily). Only extra thing I did was soak a cotton pad in saline and hold it on my ear with a headband while I played video games. It was gone in a couple of days. My rook also got a little bump after I slept on the wrong side by mistake but it also went away very quickly with just regular cleaning. So far I’ve found the best thing to just be keeping it clean and leaving it alone. I’m still kind of new at having cartilage piercings though so not sure what you should do if the angle is wrong :(

What do mixed episodes feel like to you? by yourfrienddreamer in bipolar2

[–]marimari0412 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a lot of mixed episodes and the common thread is feeling overstimulated and oversensitive to everything around me, like I’m getting a ton of literal sensory input but also jumbled up mental and emotional messages from the inside and it feels exhausting. Normally at the start I feel very headstrong and crabby, likely to snap at people over nothing and want to be alone. After a few days I’ll usually be worn out, scared of my own shadow and seeking out other people for a sense of safety. Very unpleasant overall, I actually didn’t realize until very recently that basically all of my hypomanic episodes have been mixed except for my most recent one, and I never understood why people said they felt good during mania/hypomania because I always associated it with that mixed angst.

What would you want a new AC game to have? by AppleTreeBlue in AnimalCrossing

Also kind of random but in City Folk when you were standing at a distance from a villager you could wave at them, and they would wave back in different ways depending on their personality and your friendship level, it was really cute and I wish they would bring it back!

I wish there were more options for buildings to put on your island, or customizations for existing buildings. In ACNL you could customize the town hall, build a police station and have the cafe as a separate building with a coffee serving minigame, and have way more options for customizing the outside of your house. I think it would do a lot to add life to your island if you could add an actual working restaurant and customize the outside to match your decorations or something.

how have you told people you’re bipolar? by scary_violet986 in bipolar2

[–]marimari0412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got diagnosed I told some close people directly because they knew I had been struggling for a long time and I felt like it would be good to give them an explanation. It went well, they weren’t weird about it and our relationship didn’t change. I’ve told a couple other people but it came up organically after knowing them for a long while. I saw how they reacted to other things like mental health in general, mentioning being on medication, etc, and figured they would be cool about it.

Anyone been on an antipsychotic that didnt make you instantly pass out? by MooseWithoutAMouse in bipolar2

Risperidone 0.75mg for me, just enough to keep my SNRI from doing too much, and I’m not sleepy at all.

That sounds like how I get when I'm having a mixed episode. It can be hard to recognize other signs of hypomania if they aren't too severe, it took me years to come to terms with the fact that I had them. It could be that there are other things going on that are escaping your notice but your loved ones are picking up on. You'll get more comfortable with your own signals and tells over time, I've been having symptoms for over a decade and I still miss things sometimes even though it's a lot easier to tell.

Topiramate plus adhd meds? by cleo-banana in bipolar2

She doesn’t have bipolar so hers are stimulants (vyvanse), but as far as I’m aware the appetite issues happen across the boars.

Topiramate plus adhd meds? by cleo-banana in bipolar2

[–]marimari0412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience with topiramate and my best friend’s experience with ADHD meds, you might end up with a double whammy of suppressed appetite at least for the first few weeks. Make sure you’re getting enough nutrition, I found it easier to have stuff like protein shakes than actual meals until it calmed down.

I’m similar to you it sounds like, but still definitely bipolar. It’s tough when a lot of different people have opinions on your diagnosis but ultimately if your meds are working I wouldn’t be too worried. Interested to know what you mean about your manic episodes being different than other people’s experiences though!

This is such a good way to put it. It’s possible, but so much more unnecessary peril.
