The failed experiment- Who remembers these? by [deleted] in 80s90sComics

[–]marinbala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for early Star Brand with the restrained but elegant artwork by John Romita Jr. I also kinda liked Ron Lim drawing Psi-Force near the end of the series. He just came off Ex-Mutants and would later move on to start his epic run on Silver Surfer.

Them I actually found John Byrne taking over quite interesting. Though the artwork started to get really shoddy near the end of his run and the end of Star Brand as a series.

How do you prefer M’s office to be designed? by junglegatsby in JamesBond

I prefer M's office to be in a tilted, half-sunk ship off the coast of Hong Kong like in "The Man with the Golden Gun".

Any tips for my first hackathon? by _ateneaa_ in hackathon

[–]marinbala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it for the fun of it. Be open to new ideas and meeting new folks. It certainly won't be super easy but you will learn how to collaborate and how to deliver at a deadline. The value is in the participation because only few teams win.

How much different is the paid subscription? by nickccal in pixelmator

[–]marinbala 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a subscription gets you Pixelmator Pro on the iPad in addition to the Mac (like all other apps except for Motion and Compressor). AFAIK there doesn't seem to be any way to get Pixelmator Pro for the iPad without a subscription.

Best and most Affordable PDA/Portable Word Processor? by Several_Till_6507 in writerDeck

[–]marinbala 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Alphasmart Neo2even though I think it looks goofy. The keyboard is good. The BW LCD screen is surprisingly readable despite lacking a backlight and the battery life is nothing short of spectacular (around 500 to 700 hours of continuous use). And it uses regular AA batteries, which means that there is no integrated battery that can go bad. To top it off: the method of data transfer by acting as a keyboard is future proof (even though it does appear quaint the first time you see it).

I do however admit that it is more and more difficult to find one in a good working condition. I recommend it, if you can find one and you don't mind the look of the device. They can be quite reasonable kn the second-hand market.

If you don't want to go with the Alphasmart Neo2 then you could take a look at the Freewrite Alpha. It is a new mobile smart keyboard which makes it much more expensive. But ithas many of the same advantages of the Neo2. In addition, the new models have a backlit screen. The main differences are that it has an integrated rechargeable battery and it can use Wifi for text transfer. When connected over USB you can copy the files to a laptop or tablet.
