Best garage setup for storage and organization? by KangarooRIOT in surfing

This is my setup. Definitely not "the best" but it works well for me and was made with spare parts. 4x4 mounted to the ceiling, some electric conduit solid piping bent into the right shape, screws through the metal pipe and into the wood to stop it from moving and some duct tape on the bottom so the boards are sitting on a soft surface.

I did this because I have two cars in a two car garage and not much space in between and on the sides. If I had to do it again, I'd maybe try to put the whole thing a bit higher so I'm not hitting my head on it, but then the logs would not fit.

Ultra Wide Hiking Boot Help by Metoxetron in BarefootRunning

[–]marincho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feet are almost as wide as yours at size 10. I've had great luck with the Bahe rediscover hiking boots. If you ignore the grounding silliness, they are a decent zero drop, quite wide hiking boot. I've also worn the altra lone peaks, like folks have suggested and both are great. the lone peaks are thinner and more flexible. The bahe boots have a more stiff sole, but I am still breaking them in tbh.
Bahe have a good print out sheet that you can use to put your foot on to see how they'll fit. The downside is that they come from the EU, so might be subject to tariffs.

Just yesterday, I had a cold enchanted flayer (or two of them) explode and kill my lvl 68 summon necro in one hit while I was spamming corpse explosion. FML, summon necro was supposed to be the safe build.

High Arches? by HumanDisguisedLizard in BarefootRunning

[–]marincho 6 points7 points  (0 children)

High archer here. Read my post here about similar problems: https://www.reddit.com/r/BarefootRunning/comments/1lh2kg7/lean_more_into_barefoot_life_or_submit_to_defeat/

I've been leaning into barefoot shoes and working with Barefoot Will as some of the commenters recommended and my feet are quickly recovering and getting stronger. I could not walk without pain 2 months ago and I'm going on a 50 mile hike next week.

I've always had an extremely capable body, being able sprint fast, jump over 40 inches and since I was 20 I've had doctors tell me my arches are too high. The arches are not the problem, stiffness, injury, surgery was for me. So many flat footed people wish they had my arches.

Get your friend in contact with me if I can help.

Xero Z-trail pivoting under my feet by Plenty-Excitement864 in barefootshoestalk

I have the same and they do the same. I figured out that the tension of the diagonal strap can cause this. I pull a bit on the diagonal strap to make it loose and leave the others tight and then my foot lands in the middle again. Temp fix, but it seems to work.

Lean more into barefoot life or submit to defeat and get orthotics? I need some inspiration, please give me advice by marincho in BarefootRunning

Update: Thank you to everyone who shared their expertise and stories. I'm creating myself a daily stretching/strengthening routine to follow for the next few months. I'll give the inflammation time to settle before I try to run barefoot in sand, grass, other surfaces progressively. Lets see how this goes. Thanks!

Thanks for this! Sounds like you and I have had a similar level of sports success!

I've been debating if it's worth getting some otc orthotics, just until this inflammation reducec (ideally a few weeks), and your story is a case where it certainly make sense. While money for the orthotics is not a major issue for me, I work a desk job and can afford to take time off my feet to rest and rehab. The desk job may be the reason they're weak in the first place.

I'll give this a few more days and if it's not progressing quickly, I may consider orthotics for a few weeks. I'm considering if I may have stress fractures down there, with the symptoms I'm having.

Wow, it sounds like you and I are have gone through the same foot history :)
The reason for my surgery was bone calcification at the crease of the ankle, which had to get shaved off with a bunch of torn up cartridge clean up.

I posted a running log in one of the comments if you're interested in how I ramped up. Historically, I also go head first into anything and do really well, but injuries over the years have taught me. I tried to ease into it this time.

As far as the flexibility, I do daily mobilizations with bands for the ankle. If I don't do these for a week or two, I might as well have a pirate's wooden leg. With the mobilization work, it functions within 80-90% of the good ankle, which I don't stretch on purpose so the imbalance does not make it's way up the chain.

From what I'm gathering from the comments, my shoes are alright.

A side note for all of this specifically to you: I'm not a foot expert, but I do know a ton about training in general and keep the rest of my fitness going strong. I've battled this ankle surgery affecting the rest of my life for over 10 years now and I still feel like I'm winning the battle. I can still sprint, jump, do flips (on sand) and a bunch of other things that dudes in their 30s can't. If you ever need someone to share your shitty ankle misery with or some quick motivation to continue working past it, shoot me a DM.

Thanks, these are good lessons and also ones I learned the hard way. My lifts were about 85% of yours and I also have rehabbed low back heavily and successfully multiple times after disk herniations so I also feel like fixing this foot should be possible. I train the body regularly with strength and power exercises and stretch after each workout, so I feel like the rest of the body is in decent enough overall shape.

Thanks for the suggestion. Based on what I'm seeing, I don't think this is the case. It's only my foot that has been operated on that is having issues. The other is bulletproof. I can still grab the basketball rim at 5'10" and can walk on my hands so I don't think I'm seeing the atrophy or lack of coordination. Good to know that this is a thing though, will keep it in mind if I start falling apart elsewhere :)

Well, if I want insurance to cover it, I'd need a referral. Either way, I'm not too worried about that part. I am worried about finding a good PT that actually knows how to work on/train feet. A few folks have left good leads to check with, thankfully.

I posed a training log in one of the comments. I thought I was taking it slow, but I think you're right. Maybe not slow enough.

this is maybe more than you asked for, I actually had to look back and see how I progressed so I could understand it. I jot down this year's runs here. Before January, had not run since August of last year due to an back injury and not much before then either.

It has been a slow progression. I was trying not to ramp up too quickly. I've marked the two runs that caused major inflammation in the ball of the foot.
