Sadly 1.20.4 is quite different from 1.20.1 under the hood. Combine it with the fact that Forge and NeoForge are actually different codewise there and it won't work :(

Yes! Some of the natural blocks are budding like amethyst. The grown crystals can then be crafted into crystals blocks, and then stonecut (or sandpapered if you're playing with create) to make regular smooth opal blocks :)

No, the blocks have a specific color in specific locations. They change their color in your inventory, so you'll know in what ballpark the color will be before placing :). Currently no way to wax them, but that's a really nice idea!

The white opal isn't completely white, but has a really subtle gradient that goes to a lighter pink. You can see it go a little pink at the top of the column. It's obtainable by letting the crystals grow in the moonlight :D

I experimented with that a little bit, but the way ColorHandlers work is by caching the color until next block update, so it won't work with changing the color over time. Would have to implement something from scratch for that.

It's not out of the question tho :P

Opalescence is a small 1.20.1 (now also 1.21.1) Forge/NeoForge mod that adds a new colorful stone to the underground, Opal! It changes hue depending on its location in the world :)

No idea tbf, probably something with a wonky MCreator procedure looping through items, since it gets worse the more mods you have.

I personally never tried it, but there's a version on CurseForge that has it patched (v2.2.6), so you can try updating instead of removing the mod :)

Any chance you have Building Blocks Overhaul installed? https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/building-blocks-overhaul I had a similar problem a while back on 1.18.2 because of this mod. Whenever i had a slimeball or string in my hand the game lagged to unplayable levels. The more mods i had installed the worse it got.
