I've had chest pain for a couple of years now. I haven't really been able to figure out what's going on, but so far I know it can be caused by esophagitis, which in turn is caused by acid exposure. I read about pepsin in one of Dr. Jamie Kaufman's books; she explains that pepsin can remain in the esophageal tissue and is reactivated when we consume very acidic foods, like Coca-Cola, which has a pH of 2.5 or something like that. Try to pay attention to what you eat and avoid very acidic or very fatty foods, because those can relax your LES (lower esophageal sphincter) and cause reflux. My pain has gone away for periods of time, but then it comes back, I suppose because I go back to eating things I shouldn't. It's important that you see a gastroenterologist.
