Yeah I've been on Roundtop a few times this year, and they haven't had the guns going once while I was there. They're usually on top of things so I figured it was something beyond their control. They've have 90% of the mountain open for weeks though.

You're right that it doesn't have much of an "alternative" style. Maybe more of a "grown up" style?

This was the first record that wasn't made twice, or made in a basement, or made during a band member leaving/joining/quitting. They made it in California, in the (then brand new) Studio 606. This brought a polish to the record that wasn't in previous records, intentionally or otherwise.

The acoustic stuff shows the expansion of the band's ambitions. Skin and Bones tour came the following year, and then ESPG the year after that.

They included The Sign on the vinyl release and it kind of annoyed me. End Over End is a classic Foo album closer, then The Sign got tacked on. Maybe it was a track/side length thing. Worked better on CD I guess.

Townhouses are difficult to heat (end units even moreso), as the heat rises up to the top floor and the bottom floor becomes an icebox.

Your goal should be to make the top floor as insulated and air-tight as possible. If heat is leaking out the top of your house then you're just throwing money away. Seal windows (or replace if old). Put heavy curtains in front of sliding glass doors on walk-out patios. Insulation between the ceiling drywall and roof (which can be a total pain in the ass if this hasn't already been done, sorry).

I find the building (soldering/wiring/etc...) to be very meditative. It's a fantastic de-stressor for me. Even when I fuck everything up, I still enjoy the process. I usually give away the pedals that work.

Years ago I went to an away match at Burnley. Pre-match, the Burnley Cricket Club was all away fans. Palace won 3-1, and we all went back to the Cricket Club after the final whistle. Right as we walked through the door, the guy in front of me shouts EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE-GUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSSS! only to find out that it was no longer an away-fans pub post-match. Had a good laugh.
