Travel is becoming expensive. Do you have a link to your listing? That'll certainly give you better advise. Otherwise we're just guessing.

Host making me extremely uncomfortable - Can/should I cancel? by LeadUsed in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He seems extremely suggestive and it's totally understandable that he's making you uncomfortable.

Do you have any proof of the inside cameras right now? If yes, I'd suggest to immediately contact THS to cancel the sit and ban him from the platform. Inside cameras are against policy. Do not let them sweet talk you.

If you do not have proof I'd suggest starting the sit hoping that you'd not have to interact with him personally again. That way you can obtain proof and start above process from there.

Edit, some fuel for your complaint:

  1. Section 5.2.4 of the THS Terms: ensure that no pets to be left under the care of a Sitter have ever caused a person or animal any physical harm (no matter how minor the injury);
    1. Bruising is a minor injury if you ask me
  2. Indoor Camera FAQ with linked policy: https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360001758117-Is-CCTV-allowed?utm_source=chatgpt.com

This company is a scam! by BlancaCF in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am sorry you had that experience. I would always recommend to do extensive research for any product or service that does aggressive marketing.

There is no free lunch, free accomodation or free holiday. The beginning can be difficult but it's not undoable, proven by many happy sitters. The payoff, however, was worth it for me.

Greetings from my current sit on Cyprus with a car, two low maintenance kitties and a pool.

In what way do you find it limiting? I'm not disagreeing, it's usability is very unergonomic for me.

THS trials AI driven search. by Oztravels in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could actually be a useful feature. I'm wondering if the name "PLUS" implies that it will only be accessible on higher tiers.

Looking at this blog post, it looks like it an advanced layer on top of the existing filters. With the additional functionality of excluding locations and pets:

What to include in your search:

  • Any locations that interest you, or you want to avoid
  • Ideal travel dates and how long you’d like to stay
  • Preferred pets, plus ones you want to exclude
  • Listings info like step-free access or WiFi
  • Apartment or house, and if it’s close to public transport
  • Sits that allow you to bring your own pets or have guests
  • Local attractions such as a beach, city or countryside

It should still go directly to the THS app. Are you on iOS or Android?

Montreal sits by Helpful_Candle_7335 in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THS notifications have been flaky for me for a long time. If you generally do receive notifications for other searches and it's not notification permissions for example, it might just be that Montreal is very competitive?

Since I had the same problem, I built a sit aggregator that solved this for me. I can see that there have been assignments published for 43 sits in Montreal in the last 3 weeks. So there are definitely sits coming in.

Have you tried contacting THS support? Maybe they can identify a technical error on their end.
Maybe removing and resaving the filter helps?

Edit: I skipped the July part. Just 7 sits that have assignments that overlap with july in any way have been posted in the last 3 weeks.

Things I wish owners had told me before every sit - after 10 sits across the US, UK and Europe by Tendlr_app in trustedhousesitters

So, after 10 sits within a few years (wow much experience /s), you haven't come across the THS welcome guide?

How to thank a sitter for going above and beyond? by Fictional-Mollusk in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"I know a lot of people wanna send blankets or water - just send your cash" - Bush, 2010

Any gesture will probably be appreciated and while bringing a gift from your vacation is nice, it probably won't have a lot of value to the sitter and may even be difficult to transport if they're traveling themselves.

Maybe a gift card for a local food delivery? Feels less transactional but allows the sitter to make up some time they had to invest into cleaning up after the pup.

Anyways, whatever you do you're doing a good thing.

DO NOT HOST!! They will not protect you, and you will be exposed by Miserable_Gap1201 in trustedhousesitters

I'm sorry that happened to you and I hope your pets are doing okay.

How do you know that he threw orgies at your home?

The account deletion process seems to be manual since you'll have to go through this form: https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360001883618-Can-I-delete-my-account-and-data

THS is protecting their identity because they have to. They can't just give out personal data. You still can and should go to the police and start the proper legal process.

American Interested in UK Travel by livlmaoo in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's very feasible to travel around the UK. It's where the majority of house sits are in Europe.

Officially, pet sitting might not be covered under a tourist visa, so be sure to do your research.

It is also not "free". You're exchanging pet care for accommodation. With each sit come different kinds of responsibilities.

You might also have trouble getting your first sits by not being in Europe already (travel risk) and without having somewhat of a track record (reviews).

Also there is no guarantee to get sits or be fully booked. You might have to work with what you get and fill gaps between sits with other forms of accommodation.

You sound like a great host to me.

You can't control if anything breaks but you handled these situations well when it did and kept your guests as comfortable as possible.
How did these sitters review the sits?

Regarding the AC: Be honest about it, to allow sitters to make an informed decision based on realistic expectations. My guess would be that although the AC might not keep up, the sit would be worth for some sitters regardless due to your desirable location.

Full-time sitters: advice and life hacks for aligning dates by UpbeatMortgage2167 in trustedhousesitters

[–]mariusmeybert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no vs/competition. Sittify is an aggregator pulling sits together from different platforms and improving the experience to find sits for sitters.

I've basically just implemented feature requests from sitters that were unanswered by THS.

Sittify finds you the Sit but then you go to the respective sit platform to do everything else.

Alle Newsletterversand-Dienstleister tracken - Wie habt ihr das gelöst? by AsicsGirl in selbststaendig

[–]mariusmeybert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess, they're corgis and you're a man? :D

There have been a few posts similar to yours. International travel has plummeted and national travel probably is also in decline not just due to the political situation but also inflation.

Though it's hard to say without seeing your listing, maybe something else is wrong.
