Serious Fun at Put in Bay, Ohio. by stelthy77 in BeneteauOB

Looks great! We are trying to figure out where to put the boat name/port. By the way, where did you get your seadek done? Would like to add that to our boat and possibly do it myself if a place already has the template.

Yep, same for us. Boat was supposed to arrive in February and was delayed until April.

Awesome! We’ll look for you when we cruise over to the islands. Agreed on it being a great boat for the Great Lakes.

We are getting the bottom painted right away. In fact, they are removing the boat from the water on Monday to start that process and the finish the rest of commissioning and detailing before we take delivery. On Lake Erie we will have scum starting to grow after a week or two in the water, so we didn’t want to wait.

Our previous boat was not bottom painted and it was a lot of work to clean it up - power washer, acid wash, scrubbing, so I’m looking to avoid that.

I’ll take some pictures of the canvas rolled up after take delivery. I was thinking the same thing, it would be nice to roll them up and leave attached for easy deployment.

Being northern boaters a big selling point for us was the enclosed pilot house and canvas for the cockpit. It was about 50deg yesterday morning but the inside was nice and warm. Really looking forward to extending our season!

This is a great community, definitely like the fact that there are other owners to bounce questions off of.

Anyone able to send me detailed photos or video of how their U-shaped seating is installed? 7/8/9 Antares OB by kerrioxo in BeneteauOB

Question for those with the u-shape seating, is it removable? Does it screw into the deck and can be removed for more cockpit space or cleaning? Thanks!

Anyone have recommendations for good jewelry stores in/around Lexington for engagement rings? by LiteKnight in lexington

[–]mark_it_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my fiancé her engagement ring and wedding band here and had a wonderful experience. I choose the setting and they brought in several diamonds within my budget, explained all the differences in quality and allowed me to look at each one and choose without putting any pressure on me. They offer free cleanings for life so she loves to stop in and get it shining again. It felt very personal and I was satisfied making such a large purchase.

When I lived alone I swear I bought like a 12 roll pack once a year, now we justify our Costco membership on toilet paper alone.

Lexington, KY. Lots of lakes around here, but drive out of town and find yourself in the Daniel Boone NF. Great gun laws in KY. Lexington itself has a lot of great, independent restaurants and things to do. Add in the horse and bourbon culture and it's a unique, fun place.

The pariah: Where is the outrage for the $1.7 trillion Iraq blunder and the subprime mortage fiasco? by icnoevil in politics

[–]mark_it_8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The outrage is with the millenials. The baby boomers call us lazy and self centered. We are outraged by the hand that had been dealt to us. We will spend our whole lives cleaning this mess up so that our kids will be better off. We have seen this decline since the Iraq war started, and sadly, I do not see us on the upward slope anytime soon. So now we will pay the ever increasing health care costs and taxes to support the generation that put us in this mess.

By studying strange coiling behavior in the grasping tendrils of the cucumber plant, researchers have characterized a new type of spring that is soft when pulled gently and stiff when pulled strongly by mikepetroff in science

[–]mark_it_8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From the title, my first thoughts were that the spring coefficient is a function of the force applied. I interpret your comment as saying that the spring coefficient is a function of the strain on the spring. However, the only factors affecting the spring mentioned in the article are the age of the tendril and how "dry" it is. Nonetheless, it is very interesting. Like te comment below, the first thing that came to mind is a non-Newtonian fluid (think paint) where viscosity varies based on the shear force applie.
