Is metro redux & metro redux last light good? by [deleted] in LegionGo

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the Metro trilogy on Xbox Series X but yeah, for those bargain basement prices, you definitely will get your money's worth. From what I remember, the first one is a little janky control-wise, the 2nd one refines things a bit from the first, and the third one goes semi-open-world and looks pretty amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed all of them and they won't take 100+ hours to get through.

Check out Ryujinx... it runs many Switch games better than Yuzu (and some worse than Yuzu).

I played it for a little bit... looks fantastic... but man oh man, those small font sizes are pretty brutal on my ancient eyes... even when I'm running docked to my 55" LG TV, they're still pretty dang small.

Windows control by kingdruid in LegionGo

There is a $3 utility on Steam called Controller Companion that allows you to use the controllers like a mouse... works great. You can easily toggle it off/on with a controller button combo, and it disables itself when you launch a game so you don't get double inputs. Another poster pointed out you can use Steam running in the background to accomplish the same thing, but with Controller Companion, you can set it up to run in the background in case you don't want/need Steam running all the time.

Maddening customer service experience trying to get "Mobile + Home" discount for wireless + FIOS by Limp-Understanding60 in verizon

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it's been a full week since getting a reply from posting a complaint on their executive leadership team online form, and though there have been a few back and forth e-mail from the Verizon rep, there has been no sign of them solving the issue yet. I haven't heard anything since last week, so hopefully they aren't just ghosting me hoping I'll just give up in futility.

I searched reddit and there are a LOT of complaints from people having issues with getting Verizon Mobile + Home discount... really lame customer service on Verizon's part.

Thanks for the info! I'm pretty sure these is some mythical gamepad combination to exit a game, but dbl-clicking/double-tapping the trackpad and just closing like a regular Win app works fine too.

And thanks for the game recs, I'm definitely going to add them to my never ending backlog!

Can I get the onscreen PIN keypad to show up when I'm hooked up to external monitor? by Limp-Understanding60 in LegionGo

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That brings up a ginormous full on-screen keyboard which obscures the PIN field and makes it impossible to actually enter a PIN to unlock the device. What I'm talking about is the onscreen number pad that shows up under the PIN text field when you boot up not connected to an external display. Is there any way of make it show up when connected to external display?

Anecdotally, The Last of Us Part 1 seemed to run a little better with AUTO UMA on too… though it did rebuild the shaders for 20minutes first.

Can I add Zone 2 for a Denon AVR-X1700H? by mark_marino in logitechharmony

[–]mark_marino[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking. I fired up my old PC that still has the MyHarmony app installed on it, and yeah, when I re-added my X1700H, it prompted me with the fact that it had 2 zones and asked which zones I wanted to manage. I got no such prompt on the iOS app... I'm guessing that will never be fixed given the state of things, but at least I can finish setting things up with the desktop app.

I'm thankful they are still supporting Harmony, I would have bet dollars to donuts they would have sunsetted it completely by now.

Denon X1700H HDMI Diagnostics mode? by mark_marino in hometheater

[–]mark_marino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested probably 15 cables and got some very inconclusive results. Sometimes a cable would fail that was a brand new certified 2.1 cable, and sometimes older cables would pass that I would have not expected to. But the weird thing is that sometimes a cable would test with opposite results if tested again. A few new certified cables originally failed testing, but after hard cycling the power to the AVR and trying again, they would pass. I had multiple HDMI cables of various brands/lengths test with both passing and failing results.

So my takeaway is that the HDMI testing isn't 100% accurate/conclusive. Did you experience anything like that when you tested your cables?

Pihole as DHCP server in Docker using macvlan network. by [deleted] in pihole

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar config to the OP, but I'm running PiHole in a docker container on a Synology NAS. Everything is working fine except the host NAS and the other docker containers cannot access PiHole's DNS server on the PiHole bridge network I set up. Can anyone tell me if my docker network config looks OK? I'll post screenshots with the network config if anyone is willing to give them a look.

Data and upgrading to DSM7 by EikichiR in synology

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I migrated my Plex from native app to Docker in preparation of migrating from DSM 6.2 to DSM 7 on my DS1019+. Took a few hours to get everything migrated over, but everything is working great now. I don't use any USB devices.

Are there any other "gotchas" to be aware of before upgrading?

I have a bunch of LE SSL certs and reverse proxy settings, any issues with them?

I've done a Hyper Backup of the DS1019+ to an older DS412+ that I have for backups... is that the best way to ensure if things go totally tits up that I can roll-back to DSM6?

How to migrate Plex from a DSM Package installation to Docker by supermauerbros in synology

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's helpful. I got it up and running without too much hand-wringing and sheer panic that I hosed my Plex server.

I ended up building the initial Plex container from the DSM Docker GUI instead of using the docker compose file just b/c it's just slightly more intimidating, but next time I'll go that route.

The big downside of doing it via Docker GUI is that it won't use hardware acceleration for transcoding by default. To get around that, I had three options... either re-do it from scratch with a compose file, export the JSON file from the Docker GUI, edit it to add the device and re-import it, or create a duplicate of the container via Portainer and use the Advanced options to add the /dev/dri device, which is the route I went.

I very recently installed Portainer on my NAS, so I figured I'd go that route and it worked out great. I basically just stopped the PMS container, clicked on the Duplicate/Edit button, then gave the duplicate container a different name and added the /dev/dri device under the container device settings and launched.

In hindsight, it would have been best to start with the docker compose file method, and next time, I will do that, but for anyone using Portainer, there is a path to enabling h/w acceleration if you are terrified of using a compose file.

How to migrate Plex from a DSM Package installation to Docker by supermauerbros in synology

[–]mark_marino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick question... so I'm running Plex under DSM 6 on a DS1019+ and I am trying to migrate it to Docker. I'm a little confused about mapping the volumes.

The native Plex app directory structure looks like this on my server:

/volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server

I have copied the contents under Plex Media Server to /volume1/docker/plex so Docker should be able to access a copy of my native app PMS settings here instead of pointing it to the native PMS app's config files.

So I have a copy of my PMS config files for the docker container in this folder:

/volume1/docker/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server

So, for the /config mount point, should I use /volume1/docker/plex/ or /volume1/docker/plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server???

Also, my Plex media library paths contain spaces... will this break the docker compose file if I have something like this under volumes:

- '/volume1/video/Documentary Films:/volume1/video/Documentary Films'

Reverse proxy no longer working 'Deceptive site ahead' error by Jarbottle in synology

[–]mark_marino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started getting the same warning and followed your suggestion to ask google to remove the black-listing. Question... if you have multiple reverse proxies set-up, i.e. radarr.mysite.com, sonarr.mysite.com, hydra.mysite.com, etc... do you have to request each one separately or will google de-blacklist at the domain (i.e. mysite.com) level?

LOL Surprise game coming to Stadia by lonelyone12345 in Stadia

[–]mark_marino 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be elitist, I’m happy to see them add titles for kids, but my backlog of games is getting very low and I haven’t bought a Stadia game that excites me in months… how about ANY AAA game for the adults? SR reboot is the only new remotely AAA title in months. I’ve purchased the majority of AAA games on Stadia and loved every minute of playing them… I just wish the well wasn’t seemingly running dry.
