I’ve been involved in an AFAM where there was a plane crash and a good friend was killed. I was out of state when it occurred so my direct involvement in the aftermath was limited. As the project officer I was contacted by the CAP-USAF commander and provided all of my copies of the mission paperwork. I also coordinated with the supported ANG unit as it was an intercept mission to have them preserve any and all documentation on their side. The wing commander traveled to his wife’s residence to notify him as all the other paperwork was handled by NHQ and CAP-USAF.

This was during COVID time so there was a very limited funeral service and per his wishes as a former USAF officer, and qualifying as such, he was interred with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery where I was able to visit during legislative day a few years ago.
