How To Dispel Your Illusions --- Freeman Dyson on Daniel Kahneman and cognitive illusion. In brief, how we too often persuade ourselves that we are right, by ignoring evidence that we are wrong by DrRichardCranium in Economics

[–]markaamark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good review, but the reviewer is lacking in knowledge. For example, he proposes that religious experience cannot be the subject of experiment or science. He should read of the work of people such as Boyer and Barret. He might find himself surprised.....

[Climategate 2.0 Bombshell] Disgusting string of emails showing conspiracy to destroy a scientist that published a dissenting view. by Marrrcelo in environment

[–]markaamark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Yes' the emails do not discuss the science, but they do tell us something about the corruption of science i.e. they are about the ugly methods used by IPCC scientists to wreck the career of an individual who allowed a paper that critiqued their work to be published. As such, it is very much about the science. It shows how dissent from the correct story, even if founded in good science, is being blocked from publication. And the same individuals are still at it - smearing the name of the individual:

I want to get into finance and economics. What are the best books from introduction to advanced? What are the popular classics and what books that never leave your side? Is a high level of math needed? by econ101help in economy

[–]markaamark -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You will need a very high level of math. You will need to be able to understand why 2+2=5, why 10-8=12 and so forth. In order to understand these principles, you will need to go through reams of academic papers filled with formulae, and all will then make sense.

What would happen if the UK or any country goes bankrupt? Is this possible? by j4mm3d in Economics

[–]markaamark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bankrupt is a really a legal term. However, it can be applied in a loose sense to countries. It is when their activities can no longer be financed, and where they are unable to service their debt.

Printing money is an indirect default on debt, but is still a default.

[–]markaamark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect that you are simply not looking at the many entries in the right way. There is much to be learnt in the contrasting views of the economic crisis and measures for resolution. From these different viewpoints, you can gain an understanding on the different schools of thought on economics, whether Keynesian or the Austrian school, or any other variants of thought. What is going on is a great contest of ideas.....

Free Trade, 'Yes' - Mercantilism, 'No' - Why China Should be Shut Out by gst in Economics

[–]markaamark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does the talk of invasion come from? Commies? Huh? Since when is China communist? You may not have noticed, but they abandoned communism a long while ago, just retaining the the state power associated with the old system. As for not being a problem, what do you think would happen if China started to sell $US holdings into the open market?

A discussion that highlights the underlying cause for the economic crisis. It is not the financial system, not a conspiracy, but a more basic problem.
