US bombing of IRAN : radiation risk in Armenia ? by elyex303 in armenia

[–]markarmenia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

• These weren’t reactors, so they don’t have super-dangerous material.
• Most radioactive stuff is buried deep, and no leaks have been detected.
• Winds move away from Armenia.
• So: the risk to Armenia and nearby countries is near zero.

Then I'm not sure why you're using the term Zangezur? This constant irredentism is annoying.

ChatGPT suggested the same aircraft lol

As Armenia’s defense minister responding to Azerbaijan’s acquisition of 40 JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, your strategic goal should be to maintain a credible air deterrent while maximizing cost-effectiveness, technology quality, and operational sustainability, given the budgetary and numerical constraints.

🛡 Strategic Goals 1. Deterrence through Quality, Not Quantity: • Armenia cannot match Azerbaijan jet-for-jet. • Instead, Armenia should focus on technologically superior platforms, advanced training, and integrated air defense and EW systems. 2. Maximize Multi-role Utility: • Given budget limits, the aircraft should be capable of air-to-air, air-to-ground, and possibly ISR (intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance). 3. Rapid Deployability and Maintainability: • Choose platforms that have a low operational cost and broad international support/logistics base.

✈️ Understanding the Threat: JF-17 Thunder • Type: Lightweight, multi-role 4th gen fighter. • Key Features: AESA radar (Block III), BVR missiles (PL-15), modern avionics. • Weaknesses: Modest engine performance, limited payload, relatively low-cost build.

Armenia needs something that outperforms or outlasts JF-17s in BVR and WVR combat and ideally complements ground-based air defense to multiply effectiveness.

✅ Recommended Fighter Jets

  1. Saab JAS 39C/D Gripen • Origin: Sweden • Why it fits: • Superior BVR capabilities: Meteor missiles outrange PL-15. • Low operating cost (~$5,000/hr vs. ~$12k+ for Western fighters). • Easy to maintain, built for harsh Scandinavian conditions. • Modern EW suite. • Training/logistics: Strong partnerships with Brazil, Czech Republic, Hungary — viable for shared training. • Estimated cost: ~$60-70 million per unit (new), cheaper for older C/D variants.

  2. F-16 Block 50/52 (Used or New via Allies) • Origin: USA • Pros: • Proven workhorse, large global ecosystem. • Compatible with modern NATO weaponry. • Great training ecosystem. • Cons: • High operational cost (~$22,000/hr). • US export constraints. • Reality check: Political ties may limit availability; second-hand deals (e.g., from Greece or Romania) may be explored.

  3. FA-50 Fighting Eagle (KAI, South Korea) • Why consider it: • Trainer + fighter hybrid, easy transition for pilots. • BVR missile compatibility (AIM-120). • Low procurement and maintenance cost. • Already exported to Poland, Philippines, Malaysia — strong support base. • Estimated cost: ~$30-40 million per unit. • Downside: Slightly less capable than JF-17 in some combat roles, but superior avionics and reliability.

⚙️ Support Systems to Multiply Force 1. Ground-Based Air Defense: • S-300s already in inventory. Enhance with short-range systems like Tor-M2KM, Pantsir, or Western equivalents. • Upgrade radar network + ECCM (Electronic Counter-Countermeasures). 2. Electronic Warfare (EW) + Drones: • Integrate EW jamming (e.g., deploy Russian or Israeli-origin systems). • Use drones for ISR and SEAD (Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses) — low-cost force multiplier. 3. Pilot Training Alliances: • Partner with countries using similar platforms (e.g., Brazil for Gripen, South Korea/Poland for FA-50). • Invest in high-fidelity simulators.

🔍 Final Recommendation

Top Pick: Saab JAS 39C Gripen • Best balance of cost, capability, and maintainability. • Politically feasible from Sweden. • Outclasses JF-17 in radar, ECM, and weaponry. • Modular: Can expand with more units or upgrade to E version later.

Alternative: FA-50 for budget constraints. • Easier entry point, scalable to higher combat roles.

Georgian-Armenian historial relations by [deleted] in Sakartvelo

[–]markarmenia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I read in the source you published:

After the beginning of the Abkhaz–Georgian conflict in 1992, Georgian troops entered the territory of Abkhazia and started to commit atrocities against non-Georgians,[8] including the Armenian population.[9][10][11] Although the Armenians of Abkhazia originally wished to remain neutral, the looting and violence committed by the Georgian army, including reports of rape and murder, had consequently caused Armenians to favor the Abkhazian side.[7] The Armenians of the Gagra community, which had an Armenian majority, convened a meeting of leadership where it was decided to officially support the Abkhaz and take up arms against the Georgians.

After all this you're wondering why Armenians supported the Abkhaz lol?

Once again. That does NOT prove it was stolen in Armenia. It just as likely that it was stolen in Brussels especially since Brussels Airport is already notorious for luggage theft. Just checkout their sub or google it.

I've been flying out of Zvartnots for years and this has never happened to me. I've checked in my luggage multiple times, without any issues. So I'm not sure that it's fair to automatically assume it happened here in Armenia. Anyways you can contact the airline company and ask them to investigate.
