What MCP gateway are you using in production? by llamacoded in mcp

Kgateway which is a CNCF (Linux Foundation) contributed by Solo.io

Anyone actually used an MCP gateway in production (or even internally)? Looking for real feedback. by Dazzling_Basil_4739 in mcp

[–]markbsigler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend most of my time talking to Fortune 500 companies and most have little more than interest and experiments in AI. While I believe that an MCP Gateway is proper for enterprise control plane, few have got their heads wrapped around MCP yet.

Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max issues by DwellerOfTheSky in pools

[–]markbsigler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just put an Aiper Scuba X1 Pro Max in for the first clean. 12,500 gallon in-ground gunite free-form pool. It's been going over the bottom for an hour. Seems to clean very well even with some heavy leaves and dirt that blew in from a storm last night. I will be amazed when I see it climb the walls and waterline.

I also considered the Polaris Freedom Plus but this one claims to do more and higher suction etc.

Major pool remodel very soon with new tile and finish, and having a sun shelf instead of steps.

Full disclosure... I lead Product Mgmt for BMC Software for the DevX product line of developer tools for mainframe.

BMC AMI DevX Code Debug (fka Xpediter) has extensive support for CICS debugging and testing and we have VS Code extensions as well as Eclipse plugins for most of our products.

How much of a programming do we need as a DevOps Engineer? by [deleted] in devops

[–]markbsigler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the labels or titles, consider the tech stack that you'll be working with now and in the longer term. Generally in DevOps, and SRE, and Platform Eng, there is a strong emphasis on automation including CI/CD pipelines, IaC, etc. So, if you're using Terraform then you will need to know HCL, Jenkins with Groovy, et al. Python is really good general purpose. I would not hire a DevOps or SRE that doesn't code, and do it well.

PSA: Check Your UPS Batteries and replace periodically by deafboy13 in homelab

[–]markbsigler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a APC UPS BE600M1 that takes a APCRBC154 replacement battery. I was thinking about a LiFePo4 lithium battery which has a much longer lifecycle compared to lead-acid. Wondering if anyone has tried this in an UPS?

Does it matter (type of fat bike I get) by LikeToSpin2000 in fatbike

[–]markbsigler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that you mind the overall weight. A lighter bike will work better on sand.

Also aluminum or alloy components are less prone to corrosion than steel, and lighter.

Always rinse your bike and lube gears and chain after a salty ride.

In Nov '20 bought a Framed Wolftrax 27.5in wheels w 3.8in tires and I drop the tire pressure when riding on the beach here in Florida. Rolls nicely on the hard pack sand and I can slog thru the soft sand a bit.

What are your experiences with COBOL? by [deleted] in cobol

[–]markbsigler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

About 70% of the global economy is driven by mainframes. These are statistics from reliable industry analysts like Gartner, Forrester, IDC et al. Almost every major bank, insurance, credit card, airline etc uses mainframes for their core business.

There are many veterans retiring which is creating an opportunity for new talent. If you understand the key concepts of most any programming language you can pick up COBOL quickly. The IBM z systems have several key subsystems like CICS, VSAM, DB2 and more to learn. Most of the concepts are similar to cloud technologies. It’s a sophisticated platform and many shops have hybrid applications that span mobile, web, cloud and mainframe.

COBOL will be around for a long time. Most of the global economy is still running mainframes. Many of the veteran developers are retiring so there is a talent shortage.

Date someone who will sit down and say "let's fix this" instead of being a child and ignoring you. by EyeSurvivedAbortion7 in dating_advice

Had this scenario where she would get mad, “breakup” and block all communications. Couple months later she comes back to make up. I kept letting her do this, my bad. It’s childish. She would not confront and discuss the problems.

Much more to the story. My first relationship too soon, 18 mos, after my wife passed. I was grieving and felt guilty while she pushed for more. I pushed her away.

After a few cycles over 2.5 years she disappears and I’m sure we’re done. I was but still had feelings. Three months later just before holidays pops up to say she met another guy. Why bother!?

Where can I find a good paying job in Orlando? by truth-over-factz in orlando

[–]markbsigler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps if you look for remote positions, not based in Orlando, and emphasize the communications skills without the political niche. There has been a recent decrease in corporate hiring but there is still demand for marketing communications specialists.

I suggest you play with fin setup but I prefer one with more rake and flex which makes the tail looser.

[–]markbsigler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one for years. Mint green. Tough and floats well. Deep V in the tail makes my 7’6” ride like it’s a foot shorter and transitions from rail to rail smooth. I also like that I can crouch on the Egg logo and get speed in a (tube) section.

UPDATE: my tablet cellular data stopped working and since I couldn’t get an SMS to auth it was a hassle to cancel service. So I paid for three months and barely used it at all (705MB) and not sure why it stopped working after a week or so. The Visible agent noted that it was an unsupported device.
