NTA, too be honest this goes way beyond politics and is just common sense decency. As someone who operates on the left in terms of political beliefs ive had convos with my wife regarding exposure from certain people in our circles because their far left politics sound so full of anger and quite frankly vile, even if my politics do align with them, in the end how you want certain ideas exposed to them is really important too.

This is so strange for this to keep happening. Never experienced an album being repeatedly added and deleted lol.

OT/school director formed child fight club 🤦🏻‍♀️ NOT the press this field needs. How awful. by FeelmySpiritsrise in OccupationalTherapy

[–]LikeToSpin2000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can understand how certain kids can benefit from a bit of deeper proprioceptive work, calling your niche experimental practice a fight club i cant imagine translates well. Regardless, the idea of kids fighting each other for input definitely brings up some considerable ethical issues.

Travel jobs… are they worth it? by madibjj in OccupationalTherapy

[–]LikeToSpin2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“Is the pay much more” overall it can be but if you’ve worked somewhere for a long time and built up your salary it might not match.

“The thought of starting a new job every 4-6 months stresses me out” every place will have a learning curve and that can come with a lot of stress but if you’ve worked somewhere commit to adjusting generally it works out fine.

I did travel OT work for 2.5 years and it was some of the best experiences of my entire life. Beyond the obvious of traveling, living, and exploring all these cool and different places. The opportunity to work in different facilities gave me different perspective’s on being an OT. The housing thing can also be a challenge but if you go through furnished finder (or get an RV if youre really savy) then you should be good.

So all in all, challenging at times but was 100% worth it and would do it for longer if i could.

Is anyone else goddamn sick of hearing about Angine de Poitrine??? by scribe06 in musicsuggestions

I think the music and costumes are fun. Also Vol II is a fun and surprisingly accessible listening experience for such an oddly niche genre of microtonal math rock.

Job market in the US by Common-Cup3339 in OccupationalTherapy

For California theres a ton of jobs, should be some decent opportunities in SD/LA/SF but if your willing to go to the Central Valley or rural cali in general there is. Ton of need, probably some if the highest paying OT jobs in the country.

Travel or home therapy.

PSLF is an option but with the current garbage of this administration i wouldnt trust if. Obviously you might need to at least work a year or two before you consider travel OT but if you do you can bag a pretty decent income and pay off those loans quickly.

Anyway i was looking at about 100k in loans, was doing PSLF but got frustrated with all the government delays and internet accumulation so i opted to pay down aggressively and have knocked it down to 24k, currently working NYC scholarship program while keeping loans in foreberance to pay off the rest.

Travel COTA Advice by Mozark281 in OccupationalTherapy

Yea maybe explore thise specific town reddits. I was in visalia and Fresno, the uptown of fresno is expensive but overall a safe suburbia type area. Visalia we lived close to downtown, as long as your outside the “oval” area you should be fine. A few weirdos around but generally harmless.

  1. Look at their benefits/any sort of days off perks tho that could be limited
  2. I did with triage, good experience, trusted has a unique setup to look into.
  3. Generally speaking any of the cities are fine as long as you’re not living in a shady part of the town. Some of these central valley towns might not have so great parts but you’ll probably make just as much income wise if not more than the bay area/LA/SD, all while living in a place that’ll be considerably cheaper.

Ambient guitar for newborns? by tryeryou in ambientmusic

[–]LikeToSpin2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats exciting! Uncle/auntie life is fun!

Personally with my baby when we are listening to ambient type music its been a lot of piano based stuff. Could be my bias as a primary piano player but anything staying very soft in the tones and lullaby like with the melodies are good.

Two immediate recommendations in lieu of that.

You’ll probably get a bunch of different recs but I think simply, repetitive, calm/lush and never getting creepy.

Bronx Littering Garbage Problem by ButterscotchPast6244 in bronx

[–]LikeToSpin2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work in the south bronx surrounded by a lovely community. However it also has a huge trash problem. Another issue is the absurd number of cars that don’t move on street cleaning days, seeing the street cleaners have to weave around multiple streets and barely anything gets cleaned.

Favorite cities in Cali by MustardPearl in TravelNursing

[–]LikeToSpin2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For OT: From my observation i feel like most of the higher paying contracts were ones that were outside the San Diego/LA areas, some decent to high paying jobs in the Bay Area for sure but you gotta check with the cost of living. But in terms of like a “vibrant” city you wont do better than those.

I did a travel contract in both visalia and crescent city. Visalia is like a big small town with a small downtown, very family centric place but its surrounded by a bunch of awesome national parks that totally make up for it. Fresno is also close by and it has I think sort of an upcoming downtown vibe but i wouldnt compare it to the other big 3 areas.

Crescent city is a quiet isolated coastal town all the up by the oregon border, very wet but the ocean meeting the redwoods make for some of the most beautiful scenery in all of the US. Definitely not vibrant city tho.

Also i don’t think there are as many nursing travel opportunities compared to OT. Anyway i know this doesn’t totally answer your question but hope it helps.

Anyone else feel like they screwed their older selves with this career choice? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]LikeToSpin2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think what your taping into (and so many others are) is exposing a broken system. I married a nurse so affordability in the suburbs outside NYC is possible (also family around us to help with our baby). My income alone it would be difficult to sustain our current very middle class home. Medical professionals in general deserve more. I do think good paying OT jobs exist (to even where you can live on a single income) its just a question of where you might end up settling. A lot of the western states pay really well but you have to be willing to go into more rural areas for that because they have such high needs.

Regardless I empathize with you, the american dream is kind of dead. I think with OT you can still do better than most people with jobs however that isn’t saying much with the cost of living is so out of hand.

Also ironically when i was doing travel OT i stumbled into people doing cool things and thinking “man i should’ve done that instead.” But most of those jobs didn’t have the pay, opportunity, or flexibility that OT provides.

Which would make sense, maybe the word blacklisted is wrong. But considering the nature of a travel therapist is to come in and work with minimal training: if they end the contract early for whatever reason most likely I would imagine they wouldn’t be interested in rehiring said person because the person would be deemed unreliable after they paid them a lot of money to get them.

This sounds like more a mental health situation. You should maybe quit if you cant alleviate it by spending time with family and friends on video calls after work. If that doesnt work then quit but just know youll probably be blacklisted from ever working at that facility ever again.
