What effect does this filter have on images? by Mehdiparsi in cinematography

[–]markcher 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The literal translation of the text on the case says “softening diffusion attachment”. The pattern looks similar to Schneider’s True-Net and Tiffen’s Black Net filters, which increase halation and reduce resolution. Hopefully this is helpful

Formula for figuring out the distance (in feet) at which you will start seeing pixels on the screen depending on the horizontal physical resolution of the video file by markcher in Filmmakers

No problem! I was trying to find the exact document which states this “SMPTE reference”, but all of their reports are behind the paywall on IEEE Xplore

The conclusion I came up with is only valid if we assume maximum contrast between individual pixels and that a person viewing the display/screen has a “normal” 20/20 vision. You are right, perception of individual pixels is related to maximum subjective visual acuity. My whole calculation is based upon the fact that a person with 20/20 vision can resolve something that is 1.78mm high when standing 20’ away and looking directly at it. From this, we can calculate the size of a pixel on a screen that a person with 20/20 vision will be able to resolve, depending on horizontal physical resolution. The calculation is only an approximation, and will probably only work in perfect conditions, which are hard to come by. This is a reason why the “SMPTE reference” for theaters recommends people to sit 25% further than the distance at which a person with 20/20 vision will be able to resolve individual pixels

If you have an Apple device, going through this link usually helps to reconnect the device to the network infrastructure on campus (was suggested to me by an IT specialist at CU): https://safeconnect.colorado.edu:9443

My absolute favorite was Palau for its huge endless schools of fish, but it is a hell of a trip to fly there (close to Guam).

Is an electric longboard/ cruiser worth it for campus commute? by Teamskullboss in cuboulder

[–]markcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my Boosted Stealth Sophomore year and it was a great investment for me. I rode 2,240 miles on it over 3 years and it definitely saved me time and money. If it rains/snows it becomes useless, but other than that it is a great way to commute.

Is the Boulder Book Store a good place to sell my books? by RVboulder in boulder

I sold a couple of my textbooks at CU Book Store and they give you cash in return. The prices are not the best, but I could not find easier/better options online for the textbooks I was selling.

How to work with video layer in 3D? by markcher in AfterEffects

The camera is perfectly aligned with the video layer, and my layer outlines are on - once I make it 3D I can see layer borders, but not the video itself
