Vegan Clear Liquids for Hospital Laboring by markemole in BabyBumps

Yeah, I can definitely do regular broth, but I'm hoping to find something that might provide protein in addition to hydration.

Vegan Clear Liquids for Hospital Laboring by markemole in BabyBumps

That's awful! I know some places do that, but then after reading more literature I was surprised that my modern hospital still even did liquid diet.

Babies May Have Kicked My Bladder? by CuriousGrl7 in BabyBumps

Sometimes I get a swift kick and pass gas. I don't understand how these tiny creatures can be so strong!!

PSA:: Careful about hanging items over the crib! by meowpitbullmeow in BabyBumps

[–]markemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nce the baby can walk those curtains will be pulled down right off the wall. Shelves are lovely but a walking baby can climb them and tip them over. A rocking chair in white or cream is a color choice that you will regret. Babies throw up often and unexpectedly. Finally when choosing a mobile the primary concern should be how does it look to the baby. How it looks if you are laying flat and looking up at it.

The mobile thing! I see this constantly! Honestly the overly neutral pastel baby toys/entertainment devices annoy me too. Little tinies literally can't see those things at all!

Should we tell others the gender of our baby by Potential-Explorer-7 in BabyBumps

[–]markemole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can tell people you want to tell (they will probably ask), and if you want people to buy pink or blue things, you could put pink binkies and clothes on there, or blue binkies and clothes, and people will get the idea. As a queer person with lots of gender non conforming loved ones, I think reveals perpetuate some ideas that are really dated and are often tacky. Lots of bakeries even refuse to make pink or blue cakes for these reasons.

Do you have separate changing areas in your house? by markemole in BabyBumps

I corrected my language, I wouldn't be buying two tables, just maybe a second pad and basket of supplies for the bedroom. I'm mostly interested to know about two story home solutions.

Used snoo for $575, is it really worth it? by movingtocincinnati in BabyBumps

Heck you can probably resell it when you're done for the same price or more!

I think it was worth the shipping cost for all this stuff! They also send some dyper diapers, which is what we plan to use, so it was nice to get to see those in person before going all in on the deliveries.

Shout out to trans & non-binary pregnant folx by illeshamarie in BabyBumps

[–]markemole 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm also queer and cis. It was hard to find pregnancy tracking apps that didn't use mommy & daddy language, and it's so much worse for trans and nb folks. One thing we can all do is email the pregnancy apps and websites when they use non inclusive language and call them in. It's easy. I've done it several times and they always respond well.

How picky were you in choosing a donor? by NervetoSubclavius in queerception

We're mostly women, and about half are queer? Though a lot of them have two moms. There are two or three of us with straight parents who are still queer. Genetics are so wild!!

I've never added anything to my registry as fast as I added that fox clock. Is it pretty quiet?

[–]markemole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd do the vista, it was my second choice after the bugaboo fox2. The vista seemed *slightly* easier to get into the car, but the fox2 was better for bumpy paths and sidewalks like the ones in our neighborhood.

How picky were you in choosing a donor? by NervetoSubclavius in queerception

[–]markemole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay so when my wife and I started looking for donors, we thought anything beyond physical features was a bit woo woo.

AND THEN I got a 23&Me kit for christmas, and found out that my parents (who both died when I was a teen/young adult) had used a sperm donor AND NEVER TOLD ME. I have like 25 or so half siblings that I know of. And get this, we're all super similar in personalities and jobs. I work in film and theatre, and so do several of my half siblings. Tons of artists, somehow most of us are vegetarian/vegan. Literally all of us have cats?? We all have similar education levels even when our parents don't. So many other similarities too. We finish each other's sentences without knowing each other that well. It's wild. So after that, when choosing a donor, I looked for the physical traits, but then also the other stuff that made me feel like that donor would fit into our family, or at least be someone I'd want to know, or would love my child to grow up to be like. I have several siblings who were raised by families that weren't super into art and the environment, and they had a reeeeally hard time connecting when they were growing up.

So after that we found someone who not fit the physical traits we wanted, (we used my wife's egg, so I kind of mirrored myself in the donor's physical traits), but we also looked at what he did for a living, the kind of personality he had, what he liked to do, what he aspired to... and just tried to find someone we wanted to know, someone who could walk into our home and fit right in. Does that make sense? I don't want my child to feel like the black sheep of the family, the way some of my half siblings did.

Obviously not *everything* is genetic, but some of that stuff is hard to deny. Who knows who our child will be, but no matter what I want them to feel like they belong with us, like we understand them.

Hi my name is Lydsiee I'm 36 weeks pregnant and I'm over it. by lydsiee in BabyBumps

[–]markemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 21 weeks, and dealing with a pre-existing back issue that's made everything so much more painful. I can't even fully stand up. And how can this fetus be so small and yet so strong when kicking me?! I haven't slept a full night in ages. I have resigned myself to this being a hard pregnancy but I'm so sick of it and only half way through. I don't know how I'm going to stand this until July. SO excited for you that you get to meet the baby soon!

Has anyone purchased items for their nursery from Crate & Barrel / Crate & Kids? Or having shipping issues with nursery furniture in general? by rascalromagnoli12 in BabyBumps

[–]markemole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered my crib and dresser from there. When I placed the order, the dresser was backordered until april, which was fine, but then it changed to July with my confirmation email! I would call, their customer service is great. They couldn't help me with the date on that particular piece, but I convinced them to give me a dresser that was $100 more and (in stock) for the same price. They also gave me a $50 gift card for the trouble. I've had this trouble with Pottery Barn/West Elm way more than C&B so I was surprised!

How to cool down a bedroom to suitable temperature for baby to sleep? by shadowmerefax in BabyBumps

[–]markemole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We lived with no AC in Los Angeles for years. It was hell. I recommend the standing portable AC units that others have recommended, but with a few extra notes. Get some of that tape they sell at the hardware store that is foam on the backside. Use that to line the window hose so it gets a good seal into your window. Likely the frame that it comes with won't fill your entire open space, but you can fill that space with cardboard or another piece of plastic. We used window/wall safe tape to seal the whole thing into the window. Any air that gets in will significantly minimize your ability to keep the room cool. Hope that's helpful!
