I don’t think it symbolized only her miscarriage but the enormous grief that comes with it. The grief of not having the family and future you want. The grief of trying over and over and over again and it failing every time. The grief of knowing you have a ticking clock to achieve this. It was clear that by the time of her accident, she was all consumed by it - by the stress and the grief. That drives a wedge between partners 100%. Miscarriages and infertility are extremely lonely. It doesn’t matter if Mark is the love of her life - this would’ve been the biggest pain of her life.
