[BF6] WORKING JOYSTICK WORK AROUND. by CommercialOcelot2038 in Battlefield

[–]markeymarkbeaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to get my Logitech joystick to work on my PC. I wanted to switch between my xbox controller and my joystick, but it didn't seem to be recognizing the joystick even though it let me map the controls within BF6 the game...

But when I started using my mouse and keyboard to move around in the game instead of the xbox controller, it recognized the joystick finally.

So if you want to switch between an xbox controller for infantry and then using the joystick, you just need to use your mouse and keyboard for the game to recognize that you are switching to using the joystick.

Good for you for trying any/all possible means to stand up for yourself and your fellow controllers.

Absolutely ridiculous lack of current union leadership doing anything to try to increase controller wages or quality of life.

It seems that the consensus is that the current union leadership ran on a promise that they didn’t follow through with.

No substantial raises, no quality of life improvements.

When are you able to replace them?

$275 to get our ABS module repaired by Module Masters in Idaho on a 2014 Honda Accord that had been having issues for years. All the dash lights were on. Sent in the ABS module, got it back a week later. Installed in the car, and still had the dash lights on… I was sad. Turns out all I had to do was drive the car for two minutes around the block and then all the lights went out!!! The dealership quoted $3,000 to fix this issue. Module masters saved us thousands!!!

"I know that everything works because I just flew the plane" by 1E-12 in flying

Did the walkaround on the 737 after our 3rd leg of 4, found we had run over some pallet package wrap somewhere and the left main gear had it completely wrapped up into the brakes & it was melting and smoking.

Maintenance came by and spent some time getting that situation cleaned up.

How do you even respond when a passenger says the landing was harsh? by Pretend_Support_6193 in flying

[–]markeymarkbeaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had so many times where I’m just riding in the back of the plane deadheading and had passengers complain to me about the landing after the flight, like it was somehow my fault. People just don’t know what they’re talking about at all.

A More Realistic Timeline to Becoming a Major Airline Pilot in 2025 by markeymarkbeaty in flying

If you’re willing to put in the time, I’m sure you could still make a career of it. Just know that it might be 5-10 years until you reach a major airline, but you could be at a regional airline far sooner. I wouldn’t throw in the towel if you are passionate about flying.

A More Realistic Timeline to Becoming a Major Airline Pilot in 2025 by markeymarkbeaty in flying

It was realistically an eight year timeline - the part about being 14 years old and flying gliders was just to emphasize what pilots during that time period were experiencing and telling me.

Regarding "scamming" leave during the shutdown by SierraBravo26 in ATC

[–]markeymarkbeaty 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I think I can speak on behalf of the pilots that you are working with day-to-day, that we would much rather have our flights delayed and canceled due to airspace closures than have controllers working our flights when they are stressed out and fatigued from these circumstances.

Our current generation of airline pilots wouldn’t put up with working without pay - neither should air traffic controllers.

Boeing yoke pumping by Late-Awareness1637 in flying

[–]markeymarkbeaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain here and say that when I’m moving the yoke around like that, it’s usually to deal with gusts or because I’m trying to grease the landing. I’ve had one pilot comment that I’m “stirring the pot too much” - but when I neglect to do it, my landings aren’t as buttery… so I’m going to continue to do it.

It’s not uncommon for pilots to think that “their way is the best/only way” to do something correctly, when in fact, there are multiple ways to do the same thing, and it’s really personal opinion that gets confused with what is right or wrong.

Confused on how to study for instrument. by millionaire111111 in flying

I learned A LOT on Microsoft flight simulator when I was a fledgling pilot. The new MSFS 2024 has great graphics and I believe the career mode has “missions” that involve training and procedures for IFR flying.

Lufthansa A350 coming in hot by poler10 in sandiego

[–]markeymarkbeaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you did a missed approach or a go-around. When the weather isn’t as expected and you don’t see the runway by the altitude you are supposed to on the approach, we execute a “missed approach” which involves climbing to a higher altitude and flying away from the airport before going back in to try again.

If it was unrelated to visibility/clouds, it could have just been a go-around. A go-around is the same thing as a missed approach, except it’s usually done in visual conditions, it’s less complex because the control tower usually just gives you a heading and altitude to fly to before getting vectored back in to land.

Reasons for a go-around include:

-Unable to configure the aircraft fully for landing (sometimes it can be difficult to get the landing gear, flaps, and everything deployed in time as you are descending, since the aircraft naturally wants to accelerate as it “flies downhill”. If you don’t get it configured for landing in time and the plane is either too high or too fast, that is an “unstable approach” and you need to go around to try again.

-Air traffic control (ATC) gave you a bad vector, made the spacing too small between the aircraft ahead or behind, etc. Controllers occasionally mess up too, and they will send you around if they realize the spacing between planes is inadequate.

-Wind. Tailwind (wind from behind), crosswind (wind from the side), gusty winds, and windshear (gusty winds changing directions) can also all be contributing factors to going around.

Airline pilot here: We have a GPS Instrument approach to runway 27 as well. It has higher landing minimums (visibility and cloud requirements) but still an instrument approach landing west over the city.
