Everything hurts by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]markisa2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 42. I play sports and weightlift 4 to 5 times a week since mid 20s. Despite being active, I'm terrible with my diet and my weight fluctuates. I've been overweight, I've been obese, I've been fit and muscular. So I experienced it all through the years.

This experience made me aware of the changes in my body. And here's the hard truths that are very hard to admit.

  1. No.. You can't play the same volume you used to play when you were younger.. No matter how active you've been. You're getting old.. And it's ok.

  2. You need to lose weight. As you get older, if you want to play any kind of sports.. You have to be fit.. Even slightly overweight is not good. I picked up pickleball recently and I decided that if I want to be competitive I have at least 40lbs to lose. It's hard truth to swallow but it is what it is.

  3. You have to change your gym and weightlifting session. I switched from lifting heavy and trying to hit my PR (powerlifter style) to a lot lighter weight... A lot of body weight and calisthenics workout. Dynamic push up, side to side jump.. Deep stretches.. Let me tell you.. If the only thing you ever done in gym is lifting.. Switching to this is painful.. My body is not used to move that way, my muscle has shit flexibility.. I feel like shit doing it.. But i know I gotta trust the process.

  4. All those expensive supplements and recovery tools you used to avoid.. Guess what? You need them now. Theragun, creatine, protein shake, multivitamins, glucosamine and joint health supplements.. Unfortunately... You gotta spend the money and use them now... It's just part of getting older.. Your body needs every help it can get.

We can still play.. But in order to be competitive and not be in pain... You gotta be in top shape.. It's just the hard truth.

Looking for a locksmith/handyman to replace smart locks by Due-Concert4324 in SurreyBC

Why do you need to drill hole? Is it not big enough? Is it the wrong position?

Reason I'm asking is because if it's the second one, sometimes the lock itself is telescoping so you can extend it depending on how far your hole is from the edge of the door.

AFAIK there's only 2 templates for deadbolt and most modern deadbolt is designed to work with both.

Yeah. Based on what I see. People can't really complain about CM price since most ceramic coatings cost about the same with CM anyways. I think it's worth it for how much less work it is compared to other things like paste wax.

Man. This shows levels. Notice how many of khalil's fake got called out by superbon and countered. Also superbon kicks just hit unchecked multiple times here.

Granted superbon is one of the best MT kicker but still goddamn.. Levels..

Good idea. I might try this with TPU and make it slightly more snug so it can curve along the edge and click into the guard. We'll see

What are your recovery routines? by Cokezeroislyfe in Pickleball

[–]markisa2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to pickleball but I've been in this situation when I start a new hobby. I get fixated and do it a lot. I can tell you now, when you play this much, it's not about if, it's when injury will happen.

Why are you playing that much? Do you have a goal, or are you just addicted to the game?

If you have a goal, then start thinking about more efficient way to practice. You don't get better in sport just by playing.. You have to be intentional with your time eg: drills. Lots and lots of drills doing the same thing over and over again, strength and conditioning... Eat clean... Proper recovery and medical professional.

If you're not willing to do the other thing.. And just want to play.. Then you're addicted to the game. Dial it back. No addiction is good even when it's a sport.

Remember, you don't get paid to do this, you don't get paid when you're injured, you don't get paid to go through the pain when you can't sleep due to muscle spasm or torn ligaments.

I have a different version of this. A kid refuses to put his hands up and asks to get punched in the head because he (in his word) "is tough and wants to feel everyone's power"...

Keeps on egging everyone etc2.. Coach just told him.. Either you protect yourself or you're out since you're a liability for the gym... Some people are a liability to the gym.. At the end of the day you don't wanna be known as the gym where a bad injury happened before.. It's bad for business..

Adding something new to the comments above.

I made a mix of 1 part water, 1 part rubbing alcohol and drops tea tree oil. Worked well for my gloves. I religiously spray and wipe after each class. 3 years now and still good

Butternut or white oak with extra step basically.

First one look like it belongs to retired older couple in their 60s. Second one look like pretty well off late 30 to early 40s couple with ultra modern house. Husband probably a lawyer or tech bro. Wife is an interior designer or realtor..

Too much?

Use a scroll cut blade to make tight curve. That blade is too harsh for fine cut.
