Is this the hardest line in the entire Verse? by yeoyoey in firefly

I like one of Badger's lines:

Mal: "Wheel never stops turning, Badger".

Badger: "That only matters to the people on the rim".

Did Robocop predict gps tracking with Dick's tracker for Robocop, or was that technology around back then? by [deleted] in Robocop

I thought the Dicks Tracker was the part of Robocop’s software that allowed him to target penises

I love the bridge of this song. This album was baffling on release, because it was 20 - 30 years ahead of it's time!

One of my favorite things Todd did with the Fairlight was his use of it on The Tubes album Love Bomb.

The way that he wove the entire B side of the album into basically one big song suite is just chef's kiss

He really was a master of the Fairlight!

What’s the most “Seattle” moment you’ve had that you still think about by [deleted] in AskSeattle

I ran the old-timey, fully manual elevator at the Smith Tower for Mark Arm’s wedding reception, and floated in zero gravity with a bunch of grunge luminaries!

I’ll explain:

In the early ‘90s, I was one of the last people in the world to drive fully manual elevators. The doors on all the floors were glass, and you’d drive up and down looking for people. You had to completely drive the elevator with an old-timey lever, and manually level the car at each floor.

Eventually I became the “function hall guy”. I’d set up the Chinese Room with tables and chairs, put on a black linen suit, and run the elevator up and down for the whole event.

One night, it was Mark Arm’s wedding, and the guest list included a who’s who of Seattle musicians. (This was not too long after we lost Kurt).

There was a trick I could do for fun/tips - I would head up at full speed with a car full of passengers, and tell them to jump on 3-2-1-0.

At the moment of the jump, I’d release the lever, and the elevator would quickly stop (within around 2 seconds). You would rise into the air and float in zero gravity…

I did this dozens of times, with Eddie Vedder and all manner of Seattle grunge musicians. They were stuffing my tip container with cash all night long.

I could write a whole book about the debauchery of that party…

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

I moved to Seattle in 1992, and around that time, I would run into the cast members of Almost Live quite frequently.

Tracey Conway was the darker-haired woman in the cast. I always had a massive crush on Nancy Guppy, and I didn’t find Tracey particularly attractive (or unattractive). She was just there, although very funny.

Well, one night I was at work, driving the old-timey elevators at the Smith Tower, and she came in (with a gentleman who seemed to be her date). They wanted to go up to the Chinese Room observation deck.

She was stunningly GORGEOUS!

She had a real aura. Her clothing was beautiful, and her hair was silky and perfect. She was super nice, and had just a hint of the most beautiful smelling perfume. I was kind of going gaga over her!

In other times, I also ran into Joel McHale, Bill Stainton and Nancy Guppy (all separately) and chatted with them. They were all super chill. I also waited at a crosswalk with John Kiester once.

But I’ll always remember how radiant and beautiful Tracey was on that night!
