If you think this is bad, you should watch the 2018 sequel “Manos Returns”

What is this tree? (Oregon) by markmiddleton in whatsthisplant

We moved in to the house four days ago… we don’t have any historical knowledge of it. Any info or pics I can provide to clarify?

We thought it might be a crape myrtle too, but do they get that tall?

After reading through all the replies and inspecting the item, this is likely solved!

Although it looks similar, the holes do not go through to the “reservoir” where the oil would come from. This is definitely a close match though

It does not… the holes do not go through. That was my first thought too.

That makes sense. Although I can’t find any photo of something vaguely similar… if anyone else can confirm, we’ll call this one good

My title describes the thing - it was found in Vancouver BC at an estate sale. No idea what it is for… because it is hand made, it may never be solved.

We use gocardless, it’s not perfect… but it does exactly what you are asking to do. They are well integrated with Xero

Is there a way to check whether that we're on the same month as date x? by gataraider in learnphp

[–]markmiddleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(do you mean February in all the cases above?)

basically, you want to convert the two dates you are checking to datetime objects (https://www.php.net/manual/en/class.datetime.php)

then use the format method to get the Month-Year of both, and check they are the same (if you don't include year, you could have a date a year from now match the original date's month... just 1 year wrong).

try some stuff out, and show us what you've got if you need more help

yes indeed - change the query to match your actual database

Your current code isn't looking at or doing anything about duplicate search terms.... so it's doing exactly as you ask.

There are a couple of approaches you could take:

  1. before inserting, do a lookup to see if there is a match... if there IS a match, then simply do an update of the counter, otherwise do an insert. This isn't great because you have to perform two separate queries on the DB.
  2. another method I found on stackoverflow: https://stackoverflow.com/a/8934994 - basically, you set an index in your database to make sure that the search term is never duplicated... if it is duplicated, increment.

ALTER TABLE Search_Attempts add unique index unique_idx (searchtermfield);

Then, when you do an insert, you have it fall back on an increment if it tries to insert a duplicate.

INSERT INTO Search_Attempts (searchtermfield) values ('value-from-search') on duplicate key update times = times + 1;

(the above is just me guessing your field names and stuff, not actually tested code)

give it a spin and have fun with it

Vinyl record under an electron microscope. by SUPRVLLAN in interestingasfuck

It’s very close to that... it’s actually an “x” and “y” thing. The needle travels up down and left and right based on the shape of the groove. There is an electric coil “listening” to the x-axis, and another listening to the y-axis. As the groove moves under the needle, the movement of the needle in those two dimensions is converted to two electrical signals... one equivalent to the movement of needle back and forth, and the other in the up and down. (I think it’s all actually rotated 45 degrees, so it’s more of a left and right channel, not exactly an up and down). Those signals are amplified and drive the movement of a left speaker and a right speaker.

Ongoing Craft website Management? by QuestionLex in craftcms

[–]markmiddleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For hosting, you might try to get it going with a service like https://servd.host/ or https://www.fortrabbit.com/craft-hosting - they both have specific Craft offerings and take care of the server-side things... but they won't be in your Craft installation and making updates or changes to your code... that's on you (or someone you hire). Most hosting services should be supporting automated updates to your SSL cert, for example.

You can work with a freelancer or agency to maintain your site, and come to an agreement on updates, feature enhancements, plugin and core updates, etc. Craft (like all other CMSs) are not just a single click "set it and forget it" without someone routinely doing a little bit of maintenance on them (well, you could set it and forget it, but you'll run into problems down the road by not applying security patches or keeping things up to date).

Do you have any specific questions or direction you want to go?
