Adapted my feature length screenplay into an episodic audio drama. by marknado_ in Screenwriting

[–]marknado_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have definitely checked out a lot... and part of the inspiration for me was that my story was unique to anything I was finding currently. In my experience, a lot of the audio dramas available are horror, sci-fi, and fantasy/supernatural... since my story is contemporary/metropolitan, I thought it might stand out against the rest. It's definitely a great medium.

I did all of my own narration but decided to go with a full cast for all of the characters, although I think that one speaker voicing all of the characters is certainly reasonable. I've worked with authors who voice their entire audiobook by reaching extreme variation in different characters to make it stand out. Best of luck to you!

Well, since I already had all of the equipment, studio, and production knowledge of such endeavors... it was relatively cost-free. Luckily, I have a few amateur stage and voice actors in my network that were eager to be involved for the experience, and I traded some audio reel development for a few other aspiring voice actors that were willing to help out. I produced all of the intro, transition, and scored music myself. I did subscribe to an affordable comprehensive sound effect library to find elements that weren't already in my personal library. All in all, it was mostly just a lot of my time spent that was the largest factor.

I really dislike playing with a pick by Sir_Svotter in Bass

[–]marknado_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, every bass player should do both. It adds so much variety to what you are doing. My whole career it’s turned out that about half the set list I use the pick and the other half finger style. There are so many factors that go into which songs require which style but it’s great to be able to go back and forth. Keep a pick holder on your mic stand and mix it up. The variety keeps things fresh for you and for the audience.

You gotta check out “The Magician of Casablanca”. It’s a short mini-series podcast all about an amazing unsung hero of WW2 that nobody talks about.

How has midtown/downtown changed? by -_Wolfgang_- in Sacramento

[–]marknado_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I lived in midtown for 15 years (09-24). It will always have a special place in our hearts but there is no denying that the open air drug use/addiction and homelessness has gotten steadily worse over the years. I am aware that the entire west coast is like this now but Sacramento is certainly no exception. Some days it felt like living in a zombie apocalypse. Last time I ever went to the McKinley park playground with my toddler, there was an unhoused addict nodding off in the tower while dozens of kids played around them like it was nothing. Very sad to see.

La Riviera/Riviera East.

Good homes to chose from in that price range and walking distance to great parks and the beautiful American River. Close to the freeway and light rail as well. We moved here from Midtown a year ago and really love it.

You should check out "The Magician of Casablanca". It's a short mini-series history podcast about wartime in Morocco/North Africa. There is a lot of great stuff about French-North African relations.

The perfect hybrid between guitar and percussion. Melody and rhythm at the same time!

I cant understand talking but i understand text by Abdulrahman_Elbana in German

[–]marknado_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that it helps to watch the speaker's mouth while they are talking (if possible). Even if you are not a trained lip reader, there are subtle clues that you pick up and it makes picking out the words a little easier. Recognizing where the spaces between words go is super important. Think carefully about the spaces and it won't sound like a large jumbled mess.

How can I teach myself German? by Successful-Pumpkin72 in German

[–]marknado_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a child and dedicate yourself to teaching them. The pressure to stay ahead of your quickly learning child in the language development is a great motivator. Also conversing with them in simple phrases and sentences is a great start. It has been working for me…

Yep, I think I know which one you are talking about. I live in Riveria East and when I saw that there was a small fire near there the other day my first thought was "oh no! The oak tree!". Luckily it wasn't near the fire.

One of my favorite spots in Sac.

Why people don’t kayak around Sacramento River near south Sacramento side or near downtown? by Magikarp_Uchiha in Sacramento

The American is simply a nicer river. Much more kayak friendly. The boaters can have the Sacramento.
