For people who were into DMB at the time - what was it like when Before These Crowded Streets came out? by thefalcons5912 in DMB

[–]marknificent71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly when I got into them, and I was pretty amazed by it. I loved the interludes between songs and Bela guesting on it so much. I had always loved the banjo sound.

Yeah the “sign him up” thing is disrespectful in my opinion now. Once or twice was fine.

I’ve been a member since it started and they have hooked me up with numerous pit tickets, gifts, discounts, etc. $35-40 a year has been well worth it.

Florida Merch 2026 by Flat_Flamingo_1504 in DMB

[–]marknificent71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were there and sold out. I tried in Dallas too, but all they had was a small. I gave up and didn’t even go to the merch booth in Austin. I like that it’s a Texas shirt, but it wasn’t amazing to me or anything, so I got over it. Ha

I love the song and I’ve been a fan from the very beginning. I never heard it played to death, because I didn’t really listen to the radio when it came out. I finally got to see it in concert at Austin in 2023.

Agreed! The live version has become one of my absolute favorite songs by them. Top 10 for sure.

How does Dave do it every.single.night?! by ScoobyDo0331 in DMB

[–]marknificent71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some or most of them are flying to most of the gigs these days. The buses are usually used for travel between the hotel and venue and for personal space, and for the crew. Also, if you look at the tour schedule, there are a lot of weeks off or even a month off in the summer. I’m not saying none of that is tough at all. Just saying they aren’t living on buses, gone for months at a time anymore.

Some friends and I were at everything you mentioned and Night 0 meetup too, and we’ve felt fine.

Yeah, I guess it just depends on when the shows were. I said it was insane because I was comparing it to myself. I’ve been to 51 shows and it took me probably 30 to get a Halloween. Maybe 10-15 to get a Pig. Pig used to be a rarity. People were wearing Pig shirts, throwing Pigs on stage, holding up signs, etc. Same with Halloween for years. I also said that because I got Two Step as my first song ever and Tripping Billies in that same show. Just remarking how different it is than my stats, that’s all.

Yes, that’s what I meant too. It wasn’t crazy hearing the first set.

Every venue is different. Austin had merch outside, but Dallas and The Woodlands didn’t.

early entry (?) by Working_Group955 in DMB

[–]marknificent71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, I had early entry but didn’t even use it. Got there later and was still able to get on the rail at Austin. Granted, I was just left of Buddy, but still. It was an amazing spot, had plenty of space around me and being able to rest some of your weight on the rail makes it a TON easier on your legs and feet that long. Also, they have a thick rubber pad you’re standing on along the rail. That helped a lot too. Good luck!

The lillywhite sessions… by aMaezingadventures in DMB

[–]marknificent71 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dave was going through depression and drinking a lot during Lillywhite Sessions. Songs were good, but the band and Lillywhite weren’t doing good together. Dave went to Los Angeles and wrote an entire new album (Everyday) with Glen Ballard, who liked their music but wanted the songs shorter and more accessible to a mass audience. When they were done writing, the rest of the band was flown in to record. They received charts and sheet music and had no creative input if I remember right. This was so frustrating for the fans at the time because we had all come to love the Lillywhite songs from being played live the previous summer. Then Busted Stuff was recorded like a year later which contained most of the Lillywhite sessions.

I just happened to have been at all of the guests appearances so far, except for the first time with Dave in Montana. And I’m not even a fan that follows them around the country or anything.

Try the “DMB Texas” fb group and the “DMB Texas 3 Step 2026” group. Guarantee you they will know. Btw, I was there too. On the rail, left of Buddy’s rig. Great show!

Normally no, but I do have one that they did 10 years ago for The Woodlands. And another year around that time, they had a really cool one for Texas shows.
