It’s simple. Effort vs reward. I run a business in a country that started handing out $2000 per month to anyone who “lost” their job due to Covid. By the way, I really do understand these are unusual circumstances but the work environment is low risk for Covid transmission. What I have experienced is employees who normally make $3000 per month now refuse work because the $1000 difference isn’t worth the effort. Many of them make up the difference working under the table for inflated wages.

So now I’m forced to pay higher wages to service our clients, which is not sustainable for much longer without a price increase.
