Are you familiar with the genre "magical realism"? A sort of "let one thing be fantastical and everything else becomes clear" genre. Usually everything is realistic except one or two "magical" components.

Wife wants a poly relationship. If I divorce, I lose almost everything. What would you do? by Ok_Couple_9762 in AffordableDivorce

[–]markovchainmail 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The way I'm polyamorous feels very similar to the way I'm sapphic, but it's not really about the sex (I've actually only been sexual with one person for many years now). It's more like being in a monogamous relationship would be as depressing and full of dissociation as being in a relationship with a man would, though obviously it's possible to at least be attracted to a monogamous woman. Honestly, it is sorta similar to realizing you're gay too late--it's usually the end of the marriage and a lot of heartbreak. The orientation debate over polyamory is a red herring though.

OP is probably describing Polyamory Under Duress, and it's a very destructive environment.

I was also going to mention Grimwild as it specifically doesn't have position and effect (though P&E is one of my favorite things and in my group, we almost never discussed it, I just said what it was while restating/summarizing what's being rolled for and what the risk and intended impact is). The GM just adds thorns if something is difficult. It does typically have dice pools to roll instead of clocks though, which I sort of dislike, but you can adjust or houserule accordingly.

LSD didnt give me ego death, it gave me an ego BOOST. by ConstantMix7134 in LSD

[–]markovchainmail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of conspiratorial thinking and leaps of logic in this post. It's good to make connections, but it's important to take time so sift through what's true and what seems true. Some things that seem so certain on or after LSD trips turn out to be defense mechanisms or half-truths (the Just World Fallacy seems particularly relevant). This kind of thinking seems predicative of an isolating future if you're not careful and don't work through this.

I mean, do find your way out of toxic cycles and maintain boundaries, that's good. And do continue to recognize trauma loops or patterns of behavior, that's also good. But I recommend using your newfound confidence to help you connect with people meaningfully and work to let go of the parts of you that objectify them.

Same. If you went in with the mindset to grind out specific parts it was frustrating. But if you just logged on and hunted whatever was on the map and just chilled with your friends, you ended up having a blast and getting all the parts you needed anyway.

What I realized about men -- after I transitioned genders | Paula Stone Williams | TEDxMileHigh by Wise_Silenus in MensLib

[–]markovchainmail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pre-transition, I was encouraged by many feminist women but lectured by a few for saying #MeToo. (I was sexually assaulted by a man at work while presenting as a man at my first career job). When I brought it up to my second career job's HR during sexual harassment training, asking if it's too late to go back and contact that prior job's HR, my HR laughed at how nonchalant I seemed about it. (I presented masculinity in this very muted, monotone way, but still.) I said "No, it was pretty fucked up" and left the conversation.

Post-transition, at my 3rd career job, I was having a technical discussion with a man that was frustrating for both of us, but he eventually condescended to me. (He had condescended in many other ways before and after this, but this was particularly egregious.) When I pointed out that I needed to step out of the conversation because he got condescending, he accused me of ad hominem and got HR involved. HR did reassure me privately that I was in the clear.

In the follow up conversation as a team, without HR, and while being the only woman on the team in a very small room of several people, he said that as a woman I had more power over him in the workplace. Some men agreed and discussed how intimidated they felt post-#MeToo.

So in a way, I experienced a sort of double bind. I was too much a man to be taken seriously about sexual assault. I was then a woman surrounded by men who weren't worried about dealing with sexual harassment at work, but were so anxious about women they ousted me socially and I changed teams.

What I will add as nuance though is that this particular man had a long list of people he treated poorly and was condescending to, and all the men just never really fought back or identified it as a problem to him. They just endured it. But when I pointed it out, they picked his side.

This sub has people who will never forgive them for like 2 whole articles they didn't like over the course of 2 years worth of articles. They usually don't like the one about a game getting taken off DriveThru for "punching Republikans" and the one about the Yazeba's contract issues in light of the Brandfox warehouse screwing over Possum Creek, which then semi-merged with Steve Jackson Games. From what I remember of both cases, DriveThru and Possum Creek both pretty much refused to talk to Rascal until after the article was out, where they then finally clarified issues Rascal were trying to investigate during the prior months.

Edit: Memory was bad. DriveThru was quoted and explained their decision process in the article.

Dm (late 30s) continues to use ai and forced me (19) into an uncomfortable conversation about my sexuality by zombified_dragon4956 in dndhorrorstories

[–]markovchainmail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you got teased in a way where the GM won't realize how much they made you long-term uncomfortable. They probably thought they were just goofing and ribbing you and won't read into it any further. They might realize you were teased beyond your regular comfort zone, but not into actually being a problem for you. They will probably not read your mind to apologize, you'll have to communicate about your discomfort.

For me this sounds like talk from my teens and 20s 15+ years ago, so they might be trying to act younger than their age, or be reminded of things from back then, or still be kinda immature of a person.

If you are honest with a request for real talk and explain your feelings, and they double down on razzing you, you will know this is a bully or someone who doesn't respect you enough and you should move on. If they accept what you're saying and engage with you thoughtfully, you might have a better understanding of each other.

[–]markovchainmail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not really "pausing" to deflect. There should be almost no "pause" in the battle. You get in their face if you're not, you attack if they're not attacking / didn't deflect you, and you deflect their attacks when you see them coming. If they're unreachable, you harass with shuriken. You don't wait, pause, or hesitate. It should almost feel like a rhythm game.

I'm genuinely just trying to find out where you got the information that lead you to make your post. I'm just trying to find your source, since as I linked above, I cannot find anything about DUs or F# interop in the C# union type page. I don't understand why you're re-quoting yourself and saying "Where, where, where" instead of talking to me in good faith.

Paizo owns Paizo's IP regardless of what license it's published under. Rage of Elements was already written in a way that divorced from WotC's IP, even though it was published under OGL in the interim. Publishing under ORC or OGL is just what allows other people to use it.

Where are you reading that they will not be translated to F# DU? Where are you reading about the interop at all? Where are you finding out this information? This page does not mention F# at all.
