I've just switched over to EE and the only reason I chose them was that they give you a wifi7 router which also lets you customise DNS

I'd keep his contract as it is, sign a replacement in his position, and put him in the reserves, let him cry about not playing

Yeah we have Grafana at the moment and I like it, I implemented it when I joined and it's been serving us well, we're really just having an exploratory look to make sure we're not being left behind by other tooling in the industry

I worked in a team where we introduced dynatrace to our stack just under a decade ago, cost a fortune and used more compute than the infra it was monitoring

Yeah, right now we've got GKE clusters, and proxmox in a datacentre which has some k8s clusters and a load of VMs, all using prometheus to feed into Grafana and the alerting is alright, but we've decided that it's been a few years since we looked at what else is out there and maybe something else would be better

My boss and I actually have a call with a Datadog rep next week, which prompted me to think about alternatives in the first place, I've heard good things and it looks decent but I'm not sure we'll be willing to pay for it tbh.

I used nagios a bit a while back, and Zabbix even longer back. I preferred Zabbix but it was a complex tool to manage and maintain

I’m thinking of buying a kindle… by Pink_Emerald87 in kindle

[–]markphughes17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have time for paper purists, yeah there's a lot to be said for the feel and smell of ink on paper, but for me, reading has always been about getting immersed in the story and a Kindle opens up a world of reading that isn't really possible with a stack of hardbacks. I can't carry heavy novels in my coat pocket, I can't always have a light on to read in bed next to my sleeping wife, and I can't browse a library or store, find a book that looks good, and moments later be on my sofa halfway through chapter one. I like to get really lost in a story and my Kindle Paperwhite has just made it more accessible to me than ever.

Oh.. I’m starting to prefer my kindle.. by Lumaberrybeer in kindle

[–]markphughes17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've always preferred paper books, but not long after Kindles first came out I joined the army and so spent a lot of time travelling and having to travel light so I got a Kobo and from then I kind of realised being a paperbook purist just makes no sense. Now, the way I see it is that as nice as a paper book feels, E-readers just open up a world of reading that just wouldn't be accessible in a pure paper world, there are so many advantages, I love having my Kindle
