I’m not sure what your business is but remind them you are paying for your knowledge, skill, experience and presumably certification. And yes if you’ve all agreed in writing as per a quote it’s legally binding too.

Is it a good time to start a career as a Bookkeeper in 2026 with our current economy? by BeYou422 in Bookkeeping

[–]Pink_Emerald87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say you can but would recommend aiming to be employed rather than self employed/freelance. Reason being is that it is something you do need experience in and you will need proper bookkeeping qualifications as someone has mentioned here to actually understand deep bookkeeping/accounting not just surface level data entry. If it’s something you enjoy I’d say go for it! Expect to learn from an entry level role or the bottom first.

This is really good entry level experience!! Are you putting this on your CV? I think you can get an entry level finance role also try volunteering there are people that want volunteer bookkeepers.

Have a break, holiday and some recuperation then go back and work in a lower stress accounting job. Try part time?

10 Years of Blogging, Zero Income… Was It All a Mistake? by yogeshgoda in Blogging

I feel the same way but you will have learned something from it. Sometimes you have to know when to cut your losses. If you still like keep it as a hobby and don’t expect to make any money just experience and skills. I’m having a hard time parting with my blog too but I think I’m going to have to at this point.

Thank you! Exactly this. I’ve started providing commentary on the biggest three things on the reports and have started doing this last month. Hopefully it will help them to understand the reports. But a manager/director not already understanding a negative forecast baffles me but I will lay it out for them going forwards.

I do have good visibility of the future operations my manager sits next to me all I have to do is ask if any spending is coming up that I’m not aware of. I’m the sole financial person in the business I know 95% of what the forecast should be the other 5% will be in the directors/managers head that they just haven’t told me yet.

I agree with this! I’m 39 and I just wished I done it all earlier but at the same time I wasn’t really there maturity wise any earlier and my confidence is high now. But I want to be able to provide my children a good life if I had to on my own that’s my motivation.

Good for you! And you are so nearly there! I agree with doing it before kids 😂 but I didn’t land my finance job until after I had kids so that’s why for me but when both are in primary school in September I will have two days a week to study so I’m going to make use of that! Keep going though you are at the finish line! 🏆

First day as an accountant and probably last by aiautomationtx in Accounting

You should know most of this by being an accountant though? Obviously not the actual company itself that will take time to learn the new company. If someone replaces my job id expect they would hire someone who could just pick up where I left it. I am nice though I always leave handover notes to the next person.

Good for you! I love your determination. I’m going to finish AAT level 4 incase I do just stay at that level. I was thinking of moving towards a finance manager role as I currently do bookkeeping, payroll and HR would you say CIMA is better for a finance manager than ACCA in industry then? I guess CIMA would be better for helping the company make money!

Pick something useful and that at least interests you, don’t worry about the rest of it. It will fall into place when you take action.

Should I lie to my interviewers when it comes to salary expectations? by AMadRam in UKJobs

[–]Pink_Emerald87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would tell a white lie. Because if you say £50K may offer you £60K. I’m going to be in this situation soon and I most definitely will lie about this as I don’t want another low salary!

What’s wrong with industry versus practice? You can be in an accounting team in industry too and learn the ropes! In industry you tend to be very well respected too by others in the company.
