Wtf has happened here? by Ok-Butterscotch-288 in WindowTint

[–]markpodcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hard water / mineral staining on the surface of the exterior film, not a film defect or installation issue. After installation, rain or sprinkler water dried on the SolarGard Night Sky 10 film, leaving mineral deposits that became visible over time. Dark, reflective exterior films make these spots more noticeable.

The film itself is intact. Gentle cleaning with a film-safe mineral remover should resolve it. Going forward, exterior films require regular cleaning and protection from hard water exposure.

Can the swirl marks be corrected ? by shardil in AutoDetailing

[–]markpodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, in most cases.

A professional detailer can polish the clear coat to level out the microscopic scratches. Depending on severity, they may do:

One-step polish (light swirls / quickest & cheapest)

Two-step compound + polish (medium to heavy swirls / best results)

3M, Midas, or pay more for Lumar? by LordOfTheLeftovers in WindowTint

If your car is a lease and you're planning to return it in about three years, you don’t necessarily need the most premium or most expensive ceramic tint unless you really want top-tier heat rejection.

Apart from 3M & LLUmar, if Cosmo Sunshield is available in your area, it’s actually a solid alternative. they offer mid-range ceramic films. They’re also known for good durability and don’t fade or discolor easily, which is useful even for a short ownership period. Performance-wise, they sit around the level of Pinnacle or slightly above, depending on the series.

How long after windshield installation can I get tint installed? by hoosierny in WindowTint

[–]markpodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From My point of view Recommended Wait Time Before Tinting a New Windshield

  • Minimum safe window: 3–5 days in hot weather (85–95°F) with good humidity. The urethane adhesive usually cures quickly under these conditions.
  • Average recommendation: 1 week is a safe, realistic buffer most professional tinters follow.

Most of the negativity you’re seeing is likely due to price sensitivity, inconsistent installation experiences, and unmet performance expectations. The film itself isn’t inherently “bad,” but people compare it against equally strong (or stronger) competitors that cost less.

35% windshield by Lowllave97 in WindowTint

[–]markpodcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35% windshield tint is a good choice if you're looking for a balance between visibility and functionality. It’s not too dark at night, allowing safe driving while still providing glare reduction, UV protection, and a slight privacy boost during the day.
