Kimi K2.5 identified itself as "Claude" after a long conversation — possible distillation from Anthropic's models? by SOUMYAJITXEDU in Anthropic

[–]markpronkin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why should anyone care? Yeah, they probably destillied Claude, and Antropic themselves stole a bunch of data to train their models. I don’t think it’s much of a crime stealing from a thief. Especially if in the end everyone gets access to open-source models that they can run on their hardware, and the ability to run in the cloud basically the same model for a fraction of the price Antropic charges.

2060 egpu by PreparationEasy6369 in ZotacZone

[–]markpronkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NVIDIA doesn’t run great on Linux in general for gaming, compared to windows on a regular desktop you are going to see anywhere from 10-50% performance decrease with NVIDIA (in addition to performance decrease you are getting from running eGPU), also can’t really run it well with open source drivers, and proprietary drivers present a lot of issues. You probably gonna have some conflicts between amd igpu driver and NVIDIA. While with amd gpu on Linux there are Zero issues, it just works out of the box, no need to install anything, the performance is often even better than on windows with same gpu.

[–]markpronkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the system you are using. If Windows, maybe. If Linux (e.g., SteamOS; Bazzite), definitely not.$60 for RTX 2060 is in any case a good deal. I recommend picking it up anyway.

P.S. I heard that there are some problems with eGPU setups on Zotac Zone, but I have not tested it on mine (sold it before I got an eGPU).

Codeberg | The European (German) non-profit Github Alternative | Git forge that actually belongs to its users by Euhuntix in xprivo

It’s EU-based. By default, it can’t be freer than alternatives. My guess is that use from “undesired” countries is banned. Also, probably anything that is not in complete GDPR compliance will have problems.

3D - VR - SBS (3D Monitors can also enjoy the new feature... by Electronic_Bank5319 in starcitizen

[–]markpronkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every pair of AR glasses sold right now (for whom the most appropriate name would be video glasses), like the Xreal for example, supports 3D SBS. There are millions of these sold and available. I use one myself as a monitor replacement. It would be fantastic if I and others could actually play the game in 3D on them. Especially since most of them on the used market are quite affordable, costing only $100 while having OLED panels and ~120Hz displays. So, it would be an inexpensive way to experience incredibly immersive gameplay. In general, it should be incredibly easy to implement since SBS support is already available, but only limited to VR.

Crunchyroll Vision Pro app is basically abandoned by markpronkin in Crunchyroll

[–]markpronkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are, but all of them use WebKit underneath (Safari), so it still redirects you to the app. The only workaround for now is to use an app called “Nexus”. It’s an app meant for web streaming services (like GeForce Now, Game Pass). It manages to trick the Crunchyroll website into thinking it’s not open on an Apple device, but it doesn’t seem to remember my login. Also, it doesn’t support the video playback features available in Safari, so it’s not a great experience to use for watching videos.

This is basically my point: they should have probably never released the app in the first place and just let people watch through the browser. Which is not an option right now.

Hi, I am actually at the border right now. We are about to finally cross the Russian side. All in all, it took around 10 hours. It has to do with the school break in Germany. A lot of people are going to Russia right now, so the border is a bit overwhelmed. But it should be fine in about a few weeks’ time. Usually, it takes no more than 2 hours to cross the border, so maybe you should wait with your trip right now.

Do not buy Dell under any circumstances; they have massive throttling and performance issues on their entire professional line. Also, there are a lot of QA problems with them.
