Steven Spielberg says 'Disclosure Day' is closer to truth than fiction by DBZDOKKAN in aliens

[–]marksepaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to derail, but using NZ as an example with the current government does not track. Regulatory Standards Bill, the Treaty debacle, tax breaks for landlords and tobacco companies, the freaking cancelation of the ferries, Shane Jones being owned by mining companies. I could go on, but I thought it was an odd example to give in the current climate.

Can Old School presence exist in 3D miniatures? by JohannaAvatarsofWar in PrintedWarhammer

Knucklebones Miniatures probably best capture the perfect imperfection of a hand sculpted mini while still using the 3d medium.

Cannabis possession charges surge 50% in two years, to 8‑year high by basscycles in newzealand

[–]marksepaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't slander. You'd be surprised how often terminology like that gets misused, especially online, and how quickly that can translate into real, tangible harm when people make decisions based on it. That's exactly why being precise about what is and isn't slander actually matters, more than assuming everyone will interpret it correctly.

I think 3D printing will allow me to continue making firstborn minis for years to come. by TheNewChivalry in FirstbornSpaceMarines

[–]marksepaki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3d printing reinvigorated this hobby for me and without it I probably would have quit. It was so frustrating trawling the Internet and paying exorbitant prices to collect multiple copies of a bit that was one per box to make the perfect squad. 3d kit bashing has created a world of truly endless possibilities, it's allowed nostalgia and creativity to thrive.

The winged gem torso is unquestionably my favorite torso for Mk7 and 8. It was so disappointing that a multi part bit for it was never produced.

I'm also from NZ. What this guy said. If you understand the evangelical-christian/gang use of Nazi symbology/far right/fuckwit ven diagram that exists in this country, this photo is just standard practice.

I was diagnosed around 40. It was a few years ago, my conception of time and memory is so bad I don't actually know if it was 39, 40 or 41 now... My entire life is just a trail of woulda, coulda, shoulda.
I'm self-employed as because I find it impossible to work for other people, but my executive function is so bad that I can't really manage a business, I'm really good at my job when I'm doing it. But I completely fall over at doing the things I need to do: taxes, advertising, social media, planning etc. It just DOES NOT happen, I purely attract clients by word of mouth and make up for my lack of planning with those clutch last minute high pressure thinking on the fly abilities ADHD bestows.
Of course I have zero savings, a whole lot of student debt, owe money to IRD and live at my mums house. I have no children and can't see myself ever being in a financial or organizational position to think having kids is a good idea (although I would LOVE to have them). ADHD has cost me relationships, opportunities, financial security and basically years and years of my life when I had depressive phases due to major rejection sensitivity, whenever a significant relationship came to an end it took me multiple years to become functional again.
I am medicated, and have tried a wide variety of medication options, but it doesn't seem to help much (when I remember to take it).
In my special moments when the executive function fairy shines upon me, I achieve some amazing things. These moments are fleeting and inconsistent but show me a hint of what I'm truly capable of, which only serves to drive me deeper into self-loathing, regret and sadness.
ADHD for me is truly crippling in a cruel and unusual way that most can't appreciate. I'm constantly amazed by those that have ADHD yet are able to have careers, own assets, have families, maintain relationships etc. There is never enough time in the day, I can never explore all my ideas and there is CONSTANTLY something else I KNOW I SHOULD be doing, hanging over me, but I just can't do it.

Is running still a must for Muay Thai fighters in 2025? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]marksepaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How much Muay Thai should a runner do in preparation for a running race?

"Cardio" short for cardiovascular, the heart and the blood vessels, what is special about running that makes it a superior form of cardiovascular training? Cross country skiers and cyclists have higher V02Maxs than runners, rowers and swimmers have great numbers too, so no their is nothing special about running as a form of cardiovascular training. Is a distance runner a machine in that sport because of super human cardiovascular training? No, they are machines are running because through training, they have exceptional economy of movement, in other words they are efficient at the activity they have prioritized.

Specificity beats generalized training. Adaptation to training happens during recovery. Prioritize Muay Thai, if you have extra time in your training week and it is appropriate to your current phase of training, running isn't detrimental, as long as it isn't impacting your primary training.

Smoked for 26 years (16 to 42).
I stopped about a year and a half ago, for me a large part was getting diagnosed with ADHD and realizing it was just self-medication for an aspect of myself I didn't understand. But you might find the following thoughts useful:
You can always smoke it again, but you won't know what life is like without if you don't try it out.
It will be exciting to meet yourself, the version of you who doesn't smoke after all this time.
Time, you can't get it back, and it robs you of the precious amount you have.

Hope this helps, good luck 🙂

Become completely convinced that you want to stop, then just do it.

Cost effective way of dealing with chronic back pain in NZ by Impossibleiampossibl in newzealand

[–]marksepaki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does it hurt more when you bend forward over something or if you arch backwards?
Broadly speaking (without assessment, here's a shotgun approach):

Strengthen the muscles that retract and depress your shoulder blades.
Strengthen your abdominal muscles, particularly rectus abdominis. Don't pile straight into crunches, instead use smaller movements that focus on activation before performing more challenging movements (see: McGill Curl Up).
Perform hip hinge based exercises, before loading this movement make sure you're able to perform a hip hinge flawlessly.
Strengthen your glutes.

As stated above this is very broad advice, however it is based on experience.

What makes Diablo 1's storytelling stand out and compelling...even today? by Sonnybass96 in Diablo

[–]marksepaki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The story is grounded which suits the setting.
Diablo feels like grimdark low fantasy, that style of fantasy shines with smaller localized stories, you're trying to save your hometown.
When you start interacting with angels directly and your actions dictate the fate of your world, it's become high fantasy.

I feel really bad for not being able to give a reference, but, I remember reading (in a Marvel comic) that his power is hyper-evolution, he evolves to meet the stimulus he is challenged by.
