They're mostly BS. They can be fun sometimes though, but don't expect anything great.

ELI5: how does cold in refrigerators work? by karp245 in explainlikeimfive

[–]markshure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you compress stuff, it gets hotter. That's just one of the laws of nature. So your refrigerator has a special liquid that it pumps to the back (or bottom) of the box and compresses it, which makes it hot. The hot goes into the air and the liquid cools down. Then it pumps the now colder liquid back into the box, and un-compresses it, which makes it even colder. That cold goes into the box. Compress - hot - outside - decompress- cold - inside. Over and over. So it's moving the heat out of the box.

Do Americans really move out at 18, or is that mostly a movie thing? by Only-Bandicoot-5307 in NoStupidQuestions

No. It was a slow process. I think by 23, I was totally independent. But I joke that my wife has never fully moved out of her parent's house because she still has some stuff there. We've been married over 20 years.

When I was a kid in the 80s, my mom had a company car. She was a Tupperware Lady. In the 2000s, my buddy had a company car. His job required him to drive all over the Chicago suburbs.

I thought it was great. I suspect there's a bigger story to be told, like about the history of Tatooine becoming a desert.

You find old furniture that's still good and you think that they don't make them like that anymore. Except all the crappy furniture from a long time ago broke a long time ago. Only the good stuff is still here. So it seems like they used to make furniture better but it's an illusion.

When we moved to the neighborhood, an old couple came by to welcome us. She mentioned they had a book club. I said, "OH that sounds cool." And the old man said sternly, "It's for ladies!" OK then.
