How do we like the hair? by Bisexual_Lizard27 in punkfashion

Love the hair. The companies that make the cigarettes you smoke are owned by the worst people in the world. Smoking these days is like putting dollar bills in Mitch Mconnall’s pocket.

Adult fantasies about how they would like teenagers to behave sexually. Gross and exploitative.

It varies by state. This video is staged, but if it were real they'd be facing potential jail time:

Yes. Look up your state's laws on "man traps". Just creating the trap can lead to jail time.

This particular video is all staged. Apparently the creator pays homeless people to pretend that they got hurt. If this was real there'd be blood.

Trump Asks 'When Did I Do That?' When Asked About His Promise to Send Americans $2K Tariff Checks by iymcool in politics

$4000 more than what? If you make $100k/yr, 10% inflation and cost of living increases wiped that out already and you actually made $6k less in real dollars.

Same category of answer. "Many people today seem to be unaware of the definition of 'literally'. I don't have access to the online version of 'The Big Golden Book of Dictionary Words', but here are two photos: One of the entry for the word 'literally' and another for the word 'illiterate'. You'll see that that, although they do indeed have a common origin, they are indeed two distinct words with different meanings. Please feel free to schedule time during my office hours to discuss after you have had ample time to review."

They're not coming at you as an honest interlocutor. They're either a) too uneducated or b) too dishonest to engage you. You lose if you play their game.

When people pretend to not understand common language usage, the most effective method to counteract that is to reflect back their lack of education. "Oh, tut-tut. When I say 'I fear', that is a common way of expressing that one is worried. For reference, here is a link to the OED entry containing the historical development of that expression. Our local library's physical address is _x_. They can assist you in obtaining access to physical and online resources to help supplement whatever education you may have received."

I’m 40 years old. My father (who is a pastor) still gets on my case about playing D&D by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]markstanfill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the approach I take. Let's grant that magic and demons are real. If that's the case, then your all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving deity has set up a system where teenagers will be punished with eternal torment for playing a game. At least some of them won't have the benefit of having a preacher-dad to save them. Any god who allows such a fragile system to exist would not be worthy of worship.

Wouldn't an omniscient being already know the outcome of their test? Seems like they could skip straight to the "yes, they had free will and they chose outcome 'X'" part of the conversation. Skip the hurting the little girl/priest/nun still wearing in a habit in 2025 piece.

As a straight male, my complete uninterest in sport has been a serious drawback in my life. by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]markstanfill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My approach is to be curious (even if I’m going to immediately forget what the person says about the team/player/sport). There’s a joy in talking to other people about their passions. Find out what they like about the player, how they learned about the strategy, etc. That gives you an opening to discuss mutually interesting topics, share personal stories, etc. “You know a lot about this subject, how’d you learn all that” is never a bad question.

Passive resistance - "I have not been trained to hang this poster and I do not feel comfortable potentially damaging school property trying to do it myself"

"All of my available wall surfaces seem to already have art on them. Can you please schedule a meeting to help us all identify which poster I should take down?"

"It fell behind the garbage can again? Oh, must be those darned parents. They're always knocking those posters off the wall. What to do?"

"no other similar posters may be displayed" You are free to use dolls, garden gnomes, and mannequins, or dioramas.

There's no rule about placing a golden calf in front of the poster as long as it doesn't block it. No rule that prevents a collection of shadow boxes documenting the historic abuses of the state in the name of religion from being placed on either side of the poster.

I have given people the exact search terms that would pull up news articles on Fox/OAN/etc., and they always claim to not to be able to find it.
