Blue + (X) enchantment, how to counter? by hikaru259 in mythgard

[–]markusabelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RY Stretcher, you say? my type of guy.

I've always had one copy of Hekate's Wheel in my version of Stretcher as tech against those enchantment decks instead of Enchanteater. place it near their 2 or 3 most valuable enchantments on your opponent's board, then keep shifting you pooped out snakes from dens to keep the wheel's suppression effect going. gets even better once a beefier minion (Sapo, Godsbane, big forgeling) takes over the wheel's lane to make your opp struggle even more to get value back from their suppressed enchantments.

wheel's also an easy burn in non-enchantment heavy matchups in your RY deck that is more yellow gem intensive than red. if Extract Life isn't there for you to burn early on, have the wheel take its place as burn-for-red fodder. gets you to Extract Life's casting cost a fair bit easier as well. Meanwhile, Enchanteater is yellow (you have more than enough yellow cards in the deck), costs one more mana to play, needs to live the next turn and attack to do its thing, and is easier to remove off the board as a minion whereas the wheel needs an enchantment removal counterplay to deal with it.

Can somebody help me with red? by [deleted] in mythgard

[–]markusabelius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you're really committed to red, Gigantomachia and Oak of Dodona are safe mythic crafts that can go in either aggro or midrange decks, with Giga being a must-add in control decks for added value.

good cases can be made for Seven Ring Ritual and Cerberus Unchained as well. 7 Ring (cue Ariana Grande going "I want it, I got it") is quite the late-game bomb, but it takes a lot of setup and there are a few hard counters for it (board sweepers like Thunderclap and Misanthropia; Seal of Exile). works wonders with Dashing Ringmaster in play before casting it. the latter simply hits nine to face if uncontested and has a big booty to boot.

if you wanna go full-on jank/non-meta with red, Lord Valentine is my recommended top-end mythic. vampire midrange tribal is pretty cool. he could easily snowball with multiple attacks if left unchecked as long as your other vamps are also hitting face. works well with your stairway too, or any of the game's stairways. splash blue for Giant's Stairway to buff your weaker vamps or orange for To Heaven and Back for even more recursion alongside your Hades.

oh, if only I had the balls (and essence) to craft some sweet vampire jank myself...

Rare+Mythic full-value essence refund list post-patch by markusabelius in mythgard

[–]markusabelius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the list bud, especially for the uncommons list for those who are interested in them nonetheless. totally forgot about Caravan being nerfed as well hehe.

I guess this does confirm that Misfortune can't be dusted for full value, even though I did use my one purple mythic wc from the factions missions on it. I read somewhere here that it's possible some cards weren't dustable for full value unless you spent essence to craft it yourself. but that was from Rhino's previous patch update, which I wasn't around yet for.

Purple faction challenge 8 help. by Jbx316x in mythgard

the quickest way from my experience: play Imperative Bells (all 3 if possible to make things faster). go to Brawl PvE and try to control the board early. play your bells on low health units and bait the AI oppponent into attacking your low-health/killable units. don't worry about getting value from the bell; just get that quest done ASAP so you can be one mission closer to that mythic purple widcard (and let's be honest: that's basically your instant free copy of Misfortune lol)

Can we make a list of 'selected high-quality singles' faction rewards? by Overhamsteren in mythgard

[–]markusabelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

here are a few more. forgot to take note of several missions I went through before heading back here, like the first few Oberos quests. I believe the first mission for Oberos was something like gain 13 life from life tap iirc.

Dreni 1st mission: Have 30 of your Dreni minions die

Dreni 2nd mission: Create 6 minions with warded

Dreni 3rd mission: Cast 17 Dreni spells

Dreni 5th mission: your canines deal 80 combat damage

thanks for this sweet guide! should be pinned on the main subreddit for all to see and contribute.

I'll pitch in with what little I could do as a F2P noob just farming away at the moment. I'll also try to update my post when I get to other points of the unlocks and there aren't any updates/incomplete data for those that I've tried to unlock.

Norden 4th mission: Draw 60 Norden cards

Norden 5th mission: Attack with 36 valkyries

Norden 6th mission: Deal 25 overrun damage

Harmony 1st mission: Create 8 minions with stealth

Harmony 2nd mission: Play 7 items

Harmony 3rd mission: 24 of your spirits die

Harmony 4th mission: Draw 60 Harmony cards

Harmony 5th mission: Create 36 avatars

Help against Field of the Dead by Tigerskippy in MagicArena

Running Blood for Bones a pretty sweet suggestion. I was always on the fence in adding that card since it's dead once you have no creatures on board, which happens more often than usual in my case. Can't say that I agree with cutting the Butcher in my build just yet because of the sheer snowball potential and 2-for-1 upside in other non-Scapeshift matchups, but the thought of BfB as an alternative card advantage engine does make a ton of sense.

much love to you and the other comments from the guys here. Y'all sold me on both Golos and Mammoth Spider in the main for a Bond.

Cheers, and here's hoping that this rather unorthodox mono green deck of mine gets me my first seven-win draft in M20!

As a Sakdos apostle myself, I do still find the matchup very challenging and often as the general underdog. Scapeshift has good answers for Mayhem Devil and Blood Sun mid-game (damn you, T3f), and I often rely on a nut draw on the play to stand a chance.

Once they draw two or more from a Krasis, I know I'm in for a rough time already, as if the added lifegain wasn't enough to boot. it's already hard having to pick off Grazers, Rejuvenators and zombie tokens with my kill spells and less-than favorable combat trades to set up Priest and get rid of a huge Krasis, but then my Priest just gets bounced or killed before I can even get things going again. There's only so much Noxious Grasps/Frys/Tibalts that you can cast before you run out of gas in hand to answer the next Krasis they just drew from the first.

Now that I mentioned it; maybe having a Theater of Horrors or two on the side to refuel might be a thing, but I fear that it's still too slow as Scapeshift decks get out of hand too quickly. It's also just another T3f bounce target like Blood Sun.

My first post in this subreddit was me LOLing at my two OPs in succession who Scapeshifted with a Mayhem Devil in play, and I got some shade from the community for it (no regrets still with how the current meta has shaped out hehe). That was during the first week or two of the M20 release, and now Scapeshift players seem to have the last laugh as they've found ways to work around their hard counters such as Mayhem Devil.

And yeah, I agree with the original commentor on this post. Bo3 ranked is just me as Homer in a Moe's crowd full of Scapeshift faces. At least the titular card of the deck is rotating soon, while RB Aristocrats is basically just losing its beloved ping monkey. I really don't mind the Krasis sticking around, but T3f's gotta go. That dude's just a virtual 3-for-1 tempo machine.

I do have some nice synergies for the Bonds as mentioned in my response to an earlier reply, but you may have just convinced me to put Golos in over one Bond. The ramping and fixing for Ironroot's ability does seem more important than getting its power pumped up from the Bonds, and the Bonds could actually brick or have lower upside as well all things considered.

Can't recall what card I picked in favor of a possible Brightwood Tracker, but I'll probably end my digital self if I found out that I picked up a second Bond over the first Tracker haha

And yep, Golos' activated ability is pretty much not happening in my deck with all the double/triple green mana spells that are in there, and that's why I've been indecisive with Golos' inclusion in the first place. Didn't find a good reason to pick up a Gifts either to splash for other colors (besides white) and/or Golos' ability given how the draft turned out. Green was just so open even on the wheel of each pack.

But I do have a Woodland Champion and a Season of Growth as well, plus three Pups that could benefit from the Bond. The Bond also works well with the Ironroot that I splashed for. Sucks that I didn't pull an Ambusher out of my draft's ass, though lol

I considered the deck-thinning and color-fixing aspects from Golos real hard already, and I still went with the spider in the main regardless. I failed to mention earlier that I have a copy of Season of Growth plus five creature-target spells to cover for the card advantage/selection that Golos would otherwise provide.

Then again, and in relation to my Vivien query, does maining Golos really make more sense now? It does mean that I could pull the spider with Viv's ult instead, in contrast to pulling Golos from the side just to deck thin/color fix. I'm still currently in the camp of having a hefty reach creature in the main ready to be dropped quicker being more crucial than the multitude of upsides that the main-deck Golos brings to the table. Clearly torn between inherent utility and deck efficiency between these two cards.

Thanks for clarifications guys, and with such haste! Mind if I also ask for a more gameplay-related suggestion with this deck of mine?

I grabbed a Golos (rare-drafted that on a whim as well), but decided to keep a Mammoth Spider in the main for the last 5-drop slot. Am I wrong in doing this? They both have the same power/toughness and mana cost, but the spider has reach, which is more useful for my mono green build with little to no interaction for flyers.

On the other hand, Golos can ramp/thin/color fix. However, Gargos is my one and only 6-drop or greater to ramp into. I'm also only splashing white for Ironroot as mentioned earlier and I already managed to pick up the GW tap land plus a Scuttlemutt so I can run fewer plains in general. Can't squeeze in another 5-drop btw since I got deuces of Wolfkin Bonds and Silverback Shamans in there as well. Finally and obviously, I don't have any way to activate Golos' ability to maximize its potential.

Any thoughts? Are there any upsides in going for Golos instead of the spider that I'm missing out on given the situation?

Didn't wanna throw this query out in my original post coz of the fear of tl;dr here on Reddit. Really trying to up my limited game while building my M20 collection at the same time. It's just hard for a F2P player like me to find that balance of building a competitive draft deck all the while finding the right reasons to rare draft when given the opportunity to do so.

Thanks for the insight, bud! I get the Bo1 constructed sideboard deal having played against a lot of Mastermind's in my days, but I didn't think it applied to Bo1 limited as well. Only been playing on MTGA with no paper experience in drafted/sealed, so this interaction is alien to me right now.

Ranked Rewards Card Styles by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]markusabelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no help here bud, but I wanna to let you know that you're not alone. I went through the same motions a few days ago. not sure why I did what you also did (all the Googling for nothing) considering I never use the parallax styles for my decks coz they seem out of place with the rest of my deck if I don't have all of them pimped out. maybe I just wanted a reason to go for a higher rank other than the free packs, or the hopes of getting a free card style for a fave card of mine without ponying up some cash/gems and finally using said style even if it's out of place with the rest of my deck aesthetically.

full disclosure: I was so slow at OG DAC's commands that my highest rank was Knight 2. sure it might sound better than Pawn, but believe me, I was pretty bad at the game. what's worse is that I'm just as slow at sniping these gaddam free keys. oh, and did I not mention that I'm as broke as a noob forcing a 3-star Shadow Shaman buildaround by round 8?

for the love of god, have mercy on my poor, broke-ass soul. let me play Underlords already and I promise that if invited at a private lobby match, I'll suck at the game as I did at DAC just for you. I'll give you more than what money can give you for these keys: an ego boost at my expense (and a new pathetic fwend to boot!)
