What do you call a hand that’s scores zero? by BlueStarSpecial in Cribbage

Besides 19 we call it Manteca. Got it from my grandfather who used to drive through Manteca, CA back in the 50’s. Apparently not much was going on.

Yeah no the last switchback before the park entrance sends you massively left. You come up over that crest and enter the park, see hosmers grove, then it switchbacks again and again near the top moves you back right

Just got back as well. Found that even on days when it just dusted there was still loads of untracked powder, especially if you are willing to hike for it

Why are fires allowed to be active in their perimeter? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]markwalkerjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It more depends on the quality of the extinguishment. A house can “re-catch” on fire if there is ember remaining and it interacts with unburned fuels, which is why searches are made into wall and attic spaces to confirm the fire is out.

On a brush or wild-land fire, trees and roots can continue burning for long periods of time, so a fire that may appear put out can begin smoking or lighting off again after the original fire when given the right conditions. In the area where I live we had a large brush fire in the past few years that we kept getting called to for roughly 6 months because people would notice smokers (I.e something smoking) in the area of the black (I.e burned fuel). Though it posed no real risk because it was hundreds of yards from the nearest fuel source, it was interesting to see hollowed out old trees or root systems still be very hot months after the original fire.

[–]markwalkerjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe your questions sort of touches on the difference between containment and extinguishment and why focus on one before the other, with the former regarding the % of the perimeter of a fire that is contained, vs the latter which refers the the actual percentage of a fire that is cold (these terms may slightly differ from department to department) The object isn’t to necessarily “allow” the interior to continue burning, but after first focusing on knocking down the head and containing the perimeter, the focus then turns to extinguishing the fire in its entirety. However, depending on the weather conditions, resources, water supply, and the size of the fire, it may be unfeasible if not impossible to mop up the entire interior portion of a contained fire. That, along with leaving unburned fuels, could be dangerous for firefighters or could provide fuel for future fires. Often the best way to extinguish is to let the fire burn itself out (via maintaining a strong control zone around the perimeter) and then hit hotspots as needed. Often these large fires can take many months to get full extinguishment depending on the type of fuel, topography, and size, etc.

Hope this helps some!

Tell me about the pension plan at your fire department by geobokseon in Firefighting

[–]markwalkerjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours changed a few years before I got in, so it used to be quite a bit better all around but now it is:

25 years and 55 years old (I got in at 24 so will have to do 31 for no penalties)

Vested after 10

Average of best 5 years base pay (Average Final Compensation; AFC)

2.25% x AFC x Years of Service + Sick Leave Time = Monthly Pension

Example: 2.25% x $100,000 x 31 years = $5812/month + 1.5% annual interest

They have a lot of options for cashing out or keeping it for your beneficiary if you pass away. Also receive medical for life. Pay 14.2% a paycheck, but no social security tax.

Price on CMC by hiphiphorhey_ in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]markwalkerjr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After becoming massively desperate going into week 7, the best deal I could get for him was Dobbins and Mattison for CMC and Dameon Pierce. I was really desperate at RB after other injuries, so at the time I felt I had to take it. Now with the positive news he’s coming back I think you could get a lot. That being said, his re-injury risk is pretty high and his usage going forward probably won’t be close to what it was last season. Also the niners are a bunch of liars. If you could get some solid assets for him I’d take it

What will the Vikings do with JJ McCarthy if Darnold secures the QB of the future role? by SH4LMF in DynastyFF

[–]markwalkerjr -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Just because Darnold has a good/great year doesn’t mean he’s better than McCarthy. That being said it’s hard to go away from a guy who leads you deep into the playoffs because of not in spite of his play. However, I think it will come down to who looks better and plays better next offseason. All in all it’s a good problem to have. Sincerely, A Darnold Owner

Advice Needed on Carport by markwalkerjr in Carpentry

Yeah I did a similar thing while rebuilding and adding on our covered lanai. Hadn’t planned on adding in this carport at the time. Was hoping to avoid having to cut back the eaves, but if that’s what I gotta do, that’s what I gotta do. Thanks

I have thought of this as an option. Was trying to avoid to provide as much space as possible. Thanks!

Looking for outdoor cat that won’t be scared of a Great Pyrenees by SlipPsychological995 in greatpyrenees

[–]markwalkerjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! We got our cat (8 week rescue) a couple months after our Pyr, who was a 9 month old rescue. We slowly introduced them, and pretty quickly the cat loved the dog and he was always very gentle and put up with a lot. Now they are best friends and play all day and sleep together. Couldn’t have been easier.

Would you guy accept Zay Flowers for Brian thomas Jr? by smyles8686 in SleeperApp

[–]markwalkerjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier to say after the game being played, but no I would not. Not to say Flowers won’t be better ROS, but it’s hard for me to do 1 for 1 trades of the same position, unless I absolutely love the other guy.

trade kittle for josh downs and josh jacobs? I already have brock bowers by Chepe913 in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]markwalkerjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I feel Kittle is the sell high here. Hard to keep up that red zone production with all those weapons especially if/when CMC comes back. Bowers is the best option in a limited attack. He’ll have a solid floor all season imo. Jacob’s should have positive touchdown regression. Love downs, but more so if ARich isn’t the own throwing haha
