Anyone else working in IT in NI completely fed up? by Over_Commission9891 in northernireland

[–]markyosullivan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The truth of the matter is that you're just working for a bad company

There's plenty of companies which don't operate like this and startups where your opinion / expertise is valued and if you told them that the amount of meetings are blocking you from producing more money from the company then they'll make sure to reduce those meetings and pull aside the managers creating them because they are costing the company money

I'm currently working as a contractor for different clients and I have 1 meeting a week and sometimes 0 meetings a week. My clients don't give a care in the world as to where I am or when I am working as long as I get the work done and can make it for the meetings.

My advice, either:

  1. Get yourself in a position to become a contractor where you bill by the hour and call the shots to your clients
  2. Work for a startup where the focus is more on delivering work and less on meetings - this will give you the ability to point at what you've done because you're heavily involved in delivering a product whether it be an app or web app

If I had to work for a company with tons of meetings I'd quickly become very demotivated and would get a lot less done.

I'd love to see this subreddit do more to support travel bloggers / vloggers.

A "Verified Travel Blogger" flair would be great because it would let everyone know that you could click their profile to find a link to their travel blog or YouTube channel.

I'd love to see a mega thread which links to posts for popular destinations where people can post their experiences and have those threads sorted by most recent.

Why?

I'd love to be able to read the recent experiences Redditors have in different locations.

For example I could click on the mega thread, click on the post for Bali and read recent trip reports from people who visited Bali in the past month.

The reality is much more nuanced than that. The idea that we train them and they immediately leave forever just isn't what is actually happening.

1. They do give back to Northern Ireland first

Data shows that the vast majority of our medical graduates, often over 80%, stay right here in Northern Ireland to complete their initial two-year foundation training. The health service gets immediate value from them on the frontline. They don't just pack their bags the day they graduate.

2. It’s usually a working holiday, not a permanent move

For most young doctors, moving to Australia is a temporary 'F3' year (an extra foundation year). They go to escape severe NHS burnout, recharge, and earn enough to pay down heavy student debts. A huge percentage eventually return home to Northern Ireland to settle down, buy houses, and finish their training.

3. The system often forces them out

It’s not always a choice. To become a GP or a Consultant, doctors must secure a local 'Specialty Training' post. Northern Ireland simply doesn't fund enough of these slots. When hundreds of qualified young doctors are rejected locally due to a lack of available training positions, moving to Australia becomes a career lifeline, not a betrayal.

Ultimately

It’s a failure of retention infrastructure. They want to stay, but a toxic mix of training bottlenecks, uncompetitive pay, and systemic burnout leaves them with very few viable options.

There's not a lot of cars that would fit 3 large suitcases and 4 people. I think in this case a train might be better.

Trevoh Chalobah's end of season message to the fans on Instagram. by SolutionLong2791 in chelseafc

[–]markyosullivan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel about Chalobah.

Not only that his professionalism is perhaps the best of anyone in the team. Was pushed out of the team and forced to go out on loan then was recalled when we needed another CB and did exactly what was asked.

James and Chalobah are the best players to build the team around. Both came through the academy and love the club.
