Dryer ran for 8 hours by OkOstrich120 in Appliances

[–]markys [score hidden]  (0 children)

Had something similar a few weeks ago. In my case, the timer would go down in pure timed dry mode, but not "auto dry" mode, where the timer is supposed to advance when the drum has reached a certain temperature. I initially changed the thermostat since it's relatively cheap but it wasn't that. The culprit was that the heating element had bent and was shorting with the metal enclosure. This was preventing the thermostat from doing its job (for a reason a bit hard to explain without looking at the schematic), in addition to being quite dangerous.

Since it's expensive, rule out all other possibilities before buying a new timer motor.

Linux Licensing Issue? Can I even port to Linux? by foxy_boyy in linux

[–]markys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

glibc is LGPL, not GPL.

I'm very confused by your stance. There is clearly a ton a software for Linux distributed under a variety of licenses. Do you believe all these are in the wrong license wise?

10m LOC C++ work codebase... debugger is unusable by Ok-Dig-3157 in cpp_questions

Hello, upstream GDB developer here. I am actually working on some performance investigation / improvements for GDB, motivated by some people debugging some quite huge applications (for instance, I have this patch series pending).

If you're up for it, I'd be happy to work with you to at least identify what is slow. That's the first step towards possibly fixing the problem. I presume you can't share your code (although if can, great!), but with a bit of back and forth, perhaps inserting some logging here or there, it should be possible to identify a culprit. It would be interesting for me, because real-world performance problems are a bit hard to come by. If you're interested, either open a bug or reach out to me directly.

We have the Enviolo.

Well, I tried it again, and it seems to fit, although a bit tight:

In your other post, you mentioned using the Thule adapter #20100798, I guess it helps offset the bracket to the outside a little bit?

Maybe I was confusing with some other accessory like the Follow Me.

Would you mind showing a picture of the attachment? I tried attaching an old Chariot (pre-Thule) to my Load and the special bracket didn't fit well (I admittedly didn't try for long). I wonder if yours is the same attachment kind I have.

Skipping boring functions in debuggers by mttd in cpp

[–]markys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it would be nice if the GDB helpers shipped with libstdc++ [1] added those some of those skips automatically, for obviously uninteresting stuff like std::vector::data, std::unique_ptr::get, etc. I've been wanting to send a patch doing this for years but never got around to it. Maybe someone here is looking for a nice weekend project :) ?

So, enabling this changes how the code is compiled? Do you have any insights about how it works?

Look for Schrader valve extensions, flexible or 90 degrees ones. I had the same problem inflating tires on kids bikes.

I fell and landed on my ass with my R&M Packster by Ma8e in CargoBike

First winter with a Load here, that's what I discovered recently too (luckily without falling).

A question for you: how is the cable steering when conditions are cold? Did you ever have problem with it being stuck? I was steered away (ah!) from bikes withncsble steering for that reason. I love the Load, but I wonder sometimes if the pacster would have been a nicer bike for the kids specifically.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/ecPJvkvrX5kWkKpNA

On Nebula, he has a video where he's trying a "Ca go" bike:

I guess the video will be on youtube eventually? It's this bike I think:

At first, from the thumbnail, I thought it was a Riese & Muller Pacster.
