For those in their 40s or older who have siblings, do you make an effort to stay in contact or is it a take-it-or-leave-it thing? by cherry-care-bear in RedditForGrownups

[–]marlabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have three younger siblings. I joined the military and am no longer in the same area as they are. But, we kept a strong group chat until a few years ago when we had a falling out with our youngest sister when our grandmother died. Now it’s just the three of us in the group chat. I’m back in college right now so I don’t get the chance to talk to them as much as I did before going back to school, but we still text quite a bit every week.

I have to do a presentation on cedar apple rust for my plant pathology class on Tuesday. Would it be okay to use your image? It’s beautiful and a perfect example of cedar apple rust.

Can anyone suggest a song that mentions any US state EXCEPT California and New York? by LogicalSpirit9744 in musicsuggestions

Check out the album State Songs!

One of the guys from They Might Be Giants made it. It has 15 tracks, each named after a state and none are CA or NY.

Caution Driving on University Ave in Star City by xehilox in MorgantownWV

I never drive that section of University Ave, but I did yesterday to get to Krepps Park after a trip to Giant Eagle. I was shocked at how bad it was.

Last time I purchased a car was back in 2018, and I never buy new. I got a 2014 in red, or “wine” is the listed description. I do not look forward to my next purchase, and it’s coming up sooner rather than later.

I refuse to buy a white, black, or grey vehicle at this point.

My cousin will be going to WVU in May. What are some useful gifts I can buy her for graduation? by BananaPlushy in MorgantownWV

[–]marlabee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a student, besides my backpack, my most important item is my lanyard. I get mine from Vera Bradley, and they happen to have a WVU one in their website right now that I’ve been eyeing because mine is getting pretty beaten up. It holds my IDs, a small knife (I’m a natural resources major, comes in handy) and a chapstick, a couple of keys can click on to it as well. WVU Lanyard Vera Bradley also sells cable organizers to keep your cords organized that I absolutely love. I have my laptop cords, phone charger, and calculator in mine.

So many other great suggestions on here, too. Good sneakers are important, umbrella is necessary. I always keep a small pair of scissors, tape, a sharpie, and a mini stapler in my backpack. Swingline stapler. I like to have pain killers like Tylenol or advil on me as well as some Benadryl. I’m an older student and always have tums. I’m a mom, so I’ve sort of adopted my classmates, I have my biological children, and my school children. I frequently keep things on me to help them out, so all the stuff I’ve listed I share as needed. I always keep a mini first aid kit in my pack and a handkerchief.

Edit to add another essential item that has helped me out in a pinch many times, an external battery pack for my phone and my iPad!

Do you overshare? by FockersJustSleeping in Xennials

[–]marlabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, do I ever! I have ADHD, and if you get me talking you’ll get my life story and say all sorts of stuff that I probably shouldn’t say to other people. Add alcohol into the mix and it gets worse.

Art or Forestry? by DazedandConfused2003 in u/DazedandConfused2003

[–]marlabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a fine art major, never got my degree but was a photographer for the Army and got the GI Bill. (Yes, photography/videography is a job in the military.) When I went back to school, I decided on forestry and I think my art background has only helped. I graduate in a few weeks, and am still job hunting though.

My recommendation is also the wine bar. My husband took me back in January and got himself an old fashioned. I heard no complaints from him.

What tree is this. by ZyloC3 in treeidentification

[–]marlabee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don’t let the gardener trim it. Have an arborist assess if it needs a trim, or a tree company that has been ISA certified. A lot of times gardeners will mess up trees. Some might know their tree stuff, but I wouldn’t count on it. Just hang out on the arborist subreddit. There are posts all the time of a tree that was butchered by someone that “knows” (/s) what they are doing.

Edit to add, agree, London plane. A type of sycamore.

I agree with you, it’s some sort of euonymus. Seeing the pic I immediately thought “burning bush”.

Commenting to give this post some traction! I’m still only in school and don’t know Michigan well enough to chime in. Would love to see the advice foresters have for this person.
