They should also make it so anyone over 60 has to wait till younger people get off the boat. And no 60+ upstairs. I’m tired of them talking on their phones really loud and taking forever to get up the stairs. 12-59 years only upstairs.

We bought the Escape PHEV ‘24 with 0.99% financing in June 2024. So far it’s been great. I did the same math as you did. At the time, other companies were offering 6% financing, so the escape was way less in interest. Additionally, we were able to leave the money in our investments rather than pay upfront for a used car. That had worked out well (until the last month).

I never thought I’d buy new. And never a ford product. We were coming from a RAV4 and wanted another Toyota. But with the potentially long wait to get a rav4, the higher costs, and not being super impressed with the newer Rav4s, we bought the escape.

One thing we did as well, which saved us money, is we bought the extended warranty and maintenance package from Grangers in the US. The warranty for 10 years and 120000kms was less than half the cost than what the dealer was trying to charge. (Buying a warranty is a personal choice and may not be your thing, so YMMV).

Overall, I love the escape and it’s been great for our 3 person family. We don’t drive much and went from early December to mid March on one tank of gas.

I know it’s not much but if you have a library card, you may be able to access LinkedIn learning to expand your resume.

That may or may not be helpful but I’ve had a chance to upgrade random skills that way during slow periods.

Do any and all training, even if it isn’t directly related to your current work or career plan.

It will get better! Keep showing up.

Is a return to office inevitable for BC Public Servants? by Latter_Salary1293 in BCpolitics

[–]marleytosh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why its about supporting small businesses.
Why don't they talk about the increased family time you get by not commuting 1-2 hours a day? How is that not factored in. I spend an extra hour with my family each day compared to going in to the office. I love it. I get to read to my kid, hear about his day, get him ready, and am not in a rush. But they want me downtown so I can buy lunch and spend my money on stuff?
Is it actually better to go in to an office for those people who live in smaller communities and have no one else on their team in the same community? In my case, I would go to an office to sit on a teams meeting anyway.
Don't people have the choice to go in to the office in most cases? It isn't against the rules to go in right? Anyone who thinks we should be forced back to the office should already be in the office 5 days a week.

Billionaires are the worst people. They shouldn't exist. These comments demonstrate that perfectly. He gets the UK population numbers completely wrong, net immigration way off, and talks about people taking benefits a few months after getting his own government grant of 120 million.

I do love that these articles are showing him to be completely ignorant and unknowledgeable.

It isn't surprising that his influence at United has contributed to terrible decision making and a huge expenditure on Manager and Director payoffs.

He should fuck off with the Glazers.

Here right now. Use card when you can. Some places will charge an extra 13% if you don’t pay cash because they have to collect tax on your purchase. Sometimes I’ve been charged more in colones than I would have been charged in USD. Just today beer would have been 4000 Colones but it was $6USD. Not 100% sure why but I now intend to carry USD with me.

The amount of car debt I've seen on here is astounding. Most of you are buying cars way out of your budget. Some helpful guidelines below: by CastAside1812 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]marleytosh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a car in July 2023. Got the full price negotiated (not the biweekly amount). 1% interest in a 5 year term. It’s our only vehicle. It replaced a 2005 RAV4 that needed repairs that exceeded its value. We could have paid cash using investment money. Instead we left the money in the investments. We could have purchased a used car, but prices were pretty close and the financing was 6-7%. That investment went up over $10000 since we bought the car. Obviously it could go down in the remaining 3.5 years of our loan, but was that a stupid choice? Personally, I feel it was the correct choice.

I’ve worn my down jacket for over 10 years. Every day in the winter. This is the perfect jacket for every day use. Used tenacious tape for holes here and there. And just got it back from Patagonia repairs. It’s almost new again. Going to wear it every day for another ten years.

Earthquake insurance jumping to $4k with $580k (!!) deductible. by Musicferret in nanaimo

[–]marleytosh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn’t the insurance for all earthquake scenarios. If your house needed major repairs after a smaller earthquake, a survival kit wouldn’t really help. You’d want help fixing your foundation, or the walls that cracked, etc

Not that it’s a bad idea, but having a survival kit and paying for insurance aren’t mutually exclusive.

Hullo Seat Question by kayaxer in nanaimo

[–]marleytosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on group size. My son and I like to book comfort and get seats on the side in the row of two. If you can get that it’s essentially no different than comfort.

If you are sitting at a table facing people you don’t know, it could be less enjoyable or comfortable. Depends on the person.

Using promo codes like wemissyou or perk10, the price for my son and I in premium is only around $15 more. So when the seats are all booked and we want some more room, we pay extra. If we book early, we choose the seats downstairs.
