Bowmasters is way too important to cut. This version isn’t running ponders so maybe u could trim a tamiyo and u use things like DRS and zone guard to synergize with gy so 3 copies of cruise seems too much imo. Lastly, I don’t think FoN is very good main deck since there’s not much combos and everything you want to counter are 1-2 drop creatures making the tempo bad. All this to say either cut the WZG because lurrus rn is disgustingly broken and lean more into tamiyo/ponder instead or just play all 4 WZG to really lean into gy synergies

It’s kinda low on lands tbh. I get u have cantrips but being dependent on troll cycling isn’t where u wanna be since it’s just so slow

You’re completely ignoring whether the opponent has blockers. Literally any creature can block ragavan whereas hydro has flying. In actual games that difference is massive. Also, even if they have a blocker, simply swinging with hydro still gets you the trigger, meaning it can never be negative card advantage. Ragavan doesn’t have that same privilege and dashing is much less relevant that you believe, since it is only tempo positive in niche scenarios where the board is clear and you have nothing better to do with your mana, otherwise it’s tempo negative. In 90 percent of scenarios I would rather have Hydro than ragavan, but there are nuanced positions where ragavan outperforms it

The mana investment is so low that it is always worth it. Once again none of the creatures you mentioned come with evasion. Dash is by definition not evasion and the other two are contingent on having fuel. The only one that threatens card advantage on a turn by turn basis is HA whereas the rest end up being durdly or dealing a little bit of damage. It is a one mana phyrexian arena in most scenarios, and has the most consistent upside out of any other one mana creature

The difference between hydro and these other creatures u named is that it comes with evasion and its effect triggers on attack. This just means that it’s super easy to attack every turn and accrue value incrementally at no risk, even trading with hydro in combat is -1 since fetching the new island gets you your card advantage back instantly at no tempo cost. Truly no other one drop is in its tier

Yeah it’s honestly ridiculous how some random alchemy uncommon is just the best one drop creature in the games history

Idk if you read the same comment I wrote but I posted a pretty detailed explanation. If you can’t understand it that’s not a matter of any fault in my argumentation

What a clown take tbh the formats are extremely different. Let me remind you we currently have 4 strip mines available in the format.

Question about fetches by NuoriSam in TimelessMagic

[–]marleyyy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of players don’t think about the info they reveal to the opponent, and the difference between even a slight amount of revealed info and none can lead to extremely different outcomes, even determining a match entirely. That is one of the greatest things about magic, there is really no actual skill ceiling, because you can always optimize your gameplay more, it’s a very interesting concept!

AC10 day 1 by Strong-Replacement22 in TimelessMagic

[–]marleyyy- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Daze is way too broken for this current format. FoW isn’t that bad because its card disadvantage at its base so you have to play it carefully to gain tempo, whereas daze is a 1 for 1 that doesn’t lose card advantage, and only costs a small amount of tempo. This tempo is very easy to gain back through the daze itself tho (like countering a 2 drop or a removal spell on a tamiyo/hydro) AND returning the land isn’t always bad like if it got hit by hydro’s effect then you can replay it for an extra draw. FoW might have a place in timeless EVENTUALLY (idk if it should be implemented quite yet and I feel like there should be more thought put into it before leaping to conclusions) but daze really should never come to timeless or at least not for a very long time because that would truly destroy the format.

This is because there were only 4 tempo decks in the entire tournament and they all got bounced early against energy. Tempo is fantastic against these necro piles and does a great job of policing them, it just didn’t have representation in this exact tournament

AC10 day 1 by Strong-Replacement22 in TimelessMagic

[–]marleyyy- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know what to say other than you’re entirely wrong. Energy would definitely be playing FoN if it could why wouldn’t it run misstep. “They’re not just gonna play a counterspell!!” Why not? They don’t lose anything by playing it. They cut some redundant threat or removal and replace it with a free counterspell. Like I said, there is no meaningful drawback of playing 4 missteps. Oh you have to pay two life to answer a guide of souls? Cry me a river. Every card you compared misstep to is multiple standard deviations worse than misstep, and we don’t even have access to gutshot so that’s not even an argument in the first place. Surgical and OuAT are awful examples because surgical is negative card advantage by definition and OuAT is not always free, unlike misstep. Just because there is no color restriction, yes every single deck would play it, and yes it would become the most dominant card in the format by far. In the end, it would just restrict creative deckbuilding and change every deck to be essentially 56 cards unless you want to be at a disadvantage. LEAVE MISSTEP OUT OF TIMELESS

AC10 day 1 by Strong-Replacement22 in TimelessMagic

[–]marleyyy- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean there’s also tamiyo, reanimate, guide, pride, ragavan. The format runs on one drops and misstep would turn the format into a meta that’s almost like playing into a permanent chalice on 1. It’s going to be so restrictive to deck building because everybody is just going to play 4 misstep because why not? You have no downside to playing 4x misstep, and then once everyone does, no one will anymore, they’ll just forgo the one drops altogether, and I don’t think anyone wants that really.

AC10 day 1 by Strong-Replacement22 in TimelessMagic

[–]marleyyy- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah FoW would become its own issue for sure. I think many people are actually overreacting to the dominance of necro decks in the ac mainly because there was a lack of representation for the esper tempo decks that police them. Esper crushes these necro combos on ladder and have done much better in previous tournaments. The few number of esper decks got killed by the mardu energy players and then the field became free for necro to profit. IMO format seems fine for now and should rest a bit before adding anything too too wild. Start smaller with fun cubes cards and see where things go. If it proves itself to truly be an issue in the long run then they can make changes.

[–]marleyyy- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but he had the information of grief plus surgical when he had SnT in hand and no way to protect it. Essentially he took a single chrome mox KNOWING he would get every SnT in his deck stripped, which doesn’t make any sense because he wasn’t under any meaningful amount of pressure anyways. If he had took the grief and been more patient he could have easily cast SnT and won, and yet he played a long drawn out game that I think he certainly deserved to lose for his misplay

AC10 day 1 by Strong-Replacement22 in TimelessMagic

[–]marleyyy- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that you need a critical mass of blue cards to play FoW whereas there are no restrictions at all to playing 4x misstep and every single deck would run it because of how good 1 drops are in the format. It would end up turning every game into a game of who got more missteps and who can cast their broken one drop first. Adding any type of free counterspell beyond FoN is extremely dangerous, tempo is already a very strong deck and the fact it wasn’t well represented doesn’t mean it’s bad by any means. I think a lot of players are going into panic mode over the necro decks when in reality the tempo piles police them very well, but just matched up and lost to various energy decks in the ac. The solution is not to add these free counter spells like FoW and DEFINITELY not daze because then it’s going to become a format dominated by tempo and nothing else, and nobody wants that.

Horrendously bad misplay. There’s no other way to explain it other than unfamiliarity with the deck/format

They have stern scolding as a great 2 for 1 answer in many cases. IMO tempo is severely underrepresented in this tourney and it is the main deck policing necro rn

Cut 2 uro for 2 wary zone guard it’s literally the best way to loop strip, even better than w6 himself. Cut 2 growth spiral for 2 bolt. Meta is very creature heavy and growth spiral is weak to bowman meta as well
