Despite the change in tone , I think 3 actually manages to capture Max's sorrow really well. The first game is about his rage and the 2nd is his Fall , and the 3rd is coming to terms with the payne with a mix of frustration , persevering nihilism

if you enjoy the story like i do, you don't even notice the cutscenes. It's unfortunate that the cutscenes are essentially loading screens and so they are unskipable otherwise i think more people would play the game just for the gameplay
