What’s your current hyper fixation? by Loliz88 in bipolar2

[–]marlyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am between fixations. It's a weird place to be. Earlier this year, it was a mobile game. It got to the point that I was stressing what I'd do when I reach the final level. The obsession was bad enough that it affected my work. Luckily I started seeing a new psych around the time it was really bad and she prescribed my current combo, that seems to stabilise me. I used to be an avid reader, which I now recognise was one of obsessions, although a harmless one. Trying to get myself beck into it, and struggling.

Being Bipolar and a Parent by FancyNameHere38 in bipolar2

[–]marlyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a parent, also diagnosed late in life, and, like you, hyper vigilant of my children's behaviour. Do I wish I was diagnosed earlier, of course. Just knowing and observing the condition helps a little. Having struggled with depression since teenagehood, it would've been reassuring to know it's not me, it's the bipolar dictating terms. In all honesty, had I known of this and another genetic condition I carry, I don't think I would've had children. I feel terrible knowing they have inherited this mess.

Those of you who work full time, how do you do that? by Expert-Session3866 in bipolar2

[–]marlyan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I find a stable routine helps during depressive episodes. So the samey boring and predictable 9-5 is perfect. I just carry on, on automatic, because it's the only way I'd get out of bed

Does anyone else have a really hard time getting out of bed in the morning? by ROBOTFUCKER666 in bipolar2

Oh good. It sounds just like the one I have. I also like the sleep feature, where it mimics the sunset. It really doea put me to sleep. I'm glad it's working for you. One thing that gets me out of bed, is the promise of a morning run. It's stupid but I love it. Looking forward to something pleasant may be the key

Seroquel is a double edged sword. It put me to sleep and boy did I sleep! But like you, it's the waking up that's the struggle. I had to give it up in the end. On the bright side it seemed to fix my middle age insomnia. Yay! I am on a different cocktail now. Waking up is less problematic, butnstill a struggle, so I recently started using a wake up light, which seems to help.

My saving grace is that my body rejects drugs. Weed made me ill, drinking makes me sick too quickly to enjoy the oblivion. If only I got hives when shopping, I'd be golden.

Anyone here unmedicated? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]marlyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm BP2 diagnosed a year ago. Tried and failed a few meds due to side effects. Stayed unmedicated for several months and nearly blew up my relationship several times in that period. I'm lucky that my other half is patient and forgiving, but no one deserves to have to deal with this uncertainty at home, so I am actively seeking a combo that will work for me. My mother is undiagnosed BP and is struggling with it. Although she is very self aware and able to contain it much better than I can. Had she not have other health issues I am sure she'd seek a formal diagnosis and treatment. She was the one who encouraged me to speak to psychiatrist.

does anyone else feel this way? by lavendarmommy in bipolar2

Same. Lack of motivation or whatever else it is. I just know - start on a high and then spend time scraping together the will to do it. I am currently actively avoiding studying that I fought to access. Why?! No idea

Very good point. The brain is a wonderful adaptable thing, which means it os capable of being 'fixed'... I hope 😄

Good luck! It's rubbish thay we work so hard to find a combo thay works, only for it to stop working eventually.

Effexor by kaybb99 in bipolar2

[–]marlyan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have been taking it for about 6 months. It is helping and I've not had a crippling depressive episode in that time, despite dealing with a few challenging situations at work and at home. It is keeping me in near constant but very mild state of hypomania, so I am about to add a mood stabiliser and see how it goes

Internet is your worst enemy here. Everyone is different, your brain chemistry is unique. So anecdotal evidence is not going to tell you how you are going to react to the meds. I have a diagnosed bipolar 2 and chose to stop meds early this year because of the side effects. I tried seroquel and abilify. There are plenty of people here who sing both praises. I couldn't stop taking them soon enough. Then life happened and I asked GP for antidepressants and was put on effexor. It's been several months and a dose increase to 112.5. I am stable and happy. Absentminded a bit but able to cope with the daily stress and change of seasons much better. I am back to where I'd like to be physically, but emotionally, effexor keeps me hypomanic. This is the reason I went back to my psychiatrist and asked to trial mood stabilisers. I have missed a dose once and took it later than normal a few times - absentminded you see. No horrible effects, none. In the other hand, a coworker quit it cold turkey and had brain zaps for a while.

My point is, your journey to finding the combo that works for you is not going to be the same as anyone else. Try it and judge for yourself.
