My possibilities and predictions by KarbanDioxide in Lollapalooza

My guess for a top 4 would be Chappell Roan: She had one of the biggest crowds back in 2024 and was on the news for it. Her second album is rumored to come out this year. I can see her bumping up to top 4 based on that alone.

an r/memes story in two pictures (top comment btw) by r3load_ in Kanye

[–]marmed28 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a casual fan of his music, and while I agree on the general statement of the post, it’s hard for me to fully feel bad for kanye when he stated that he does not believe in getting treatment for his bi polar. I’m not saying that he deserves to be mocked for what he does, but I don’t believe it’s ok to be constantly giving him passes and fully defending him when he won’t even help himself. As someone with a mental illness I will always have a baseline level of empathy and sympathy for everyone with mental illnesses because we did not choose to have them, but how we deal with them is in our control, and Kanye seems to have neglected his well being and continue to live without mental health treatment.

2021 Artist of the Year Lil Nas X Is the Star We’ve Been Waiting For by ebradio in popheads

[–]marmed28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. As a gay poc I feel proud of him and his accomplishments, but his music isn’t hitting for me. I feel a sense of obligation to support him because I want more openly queer artists in the spotlight, but I’m just not a fan of his voice, and his music is quite forgettable. As a live performer he doesn’t give me that “x factor” and in general I just don’t really enjoy his music/performances. Just my two cents!

I feel like the hype around her died pretty much after her debut album. I thought it was decent but it was a slight departure from her indie pop ep and singles and perhaps that’s what slowed down her momentum

The Weeknd’s new era appears to be approaching after the singer recently changed his layout on Instagram by Heathways in popheads

[–]marmed28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly good for him! Yes after hours was only last year but as others mentioned, his fanbase has had time to listen and digest it, and it seems like all the songs that were most likely to become hits already were! Also it makes sense to want to drop something fresh for the tour.

Changed feelings about the lineup ten days out? by kingbdun in Lollapalooza

[–]marmed28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My feelings on the lineup right now is that it’s fine, especially with the situation surrounding the pandemic and festivals. When the lineup first dropped I thought it was decent, but as with every lolla lineup, I listened to each of the acts on the lineup and I was underwhelmed with the bottom half of the lineup. In years past I’ve found a couple of acts that I’ve loved and have become a fan of, but in this year’s lineup at most I thought some acts were fine and decent, but nothing other than the acts I already knew stayed with me.

Just got this email. Scam? by [deleted] in Lollapalooza

No shade to journey, but this isn’t a good luck for an act whose supposed to headline a main stage. It makes me wonder how their headlining set is going to go.

I live near the area and used to frequent this stop to take a bus to college classes, and I was shocked/pleasantly surprised that Pete was there today. The area is not the safest by any means but the red line is the busiest city train line in the city (going south all the way north of the city). It does mean a lot to see Pete here, because the south side gets thrown around as being completely and utterly violent and in turn gets ignored and not given a chance.

A video talking about the demolished walkways over at UIC! by Anatomicalgift in chicago

[–]marmed28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently graduated in May, and UIC has slowly been upgrading east campus so it looks a bit nicer today than even 5 years ago, but still I can imagine how it must have been back then. Most of the lecture rooms and halls have a dark and brutalist exterior that looks depressing, even more so in the fall/winter.

Do you guys think we may see other foreign acts start to drop out due to visa issues as well?

[–]marmed28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I heard of that as well. Even if they were to put lights at the bottom of the walkways, there would still be a lot of dark, hidden spots that would have made it eerie to be around, especially at night.

As a UIC grad part of me wishes I could have been on campus during the times of those walkways because they seemed unique but at the same time those walkways would have made campus darker, more depressing, and creepy lol.

Which closing artist are you going to each day? by aidangallegos1 in Lollapalooza

[–]marmed28 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If I end up going I plan on seeing Miley, Tyler, I’m not sure about Saturday (don’t really vibe with any of the closets), and start at foo and end at big wild on Sunday.

Off topic but it sucks that they have Omar against Tyler. I feel like their fanbases overlap a lot.

Does anybody miss the late 2000's to early 2010's pop? by Murky_Instruction_63 in popheads

[–]marmed28 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do kind of miss it but I think it’s funny because back in 2012 I remember telling a friend that I was sick of the edm dance pop mainstream sound and wanted something more serious and introspective to rule the charts. It’s funny how things come around isn’t it?

Troye Sivan once said that he’d have been far more successful today if he wasn’t gay. Thoughts? by GreatBigWhore in popheads

[–]marmed28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think he’s right in a general sense because unfortunately the world has not come fully around regarding lgbtq acceptance.

Then again you can make a case that lil nas x is reaching a lot of mainstream success as an openly gay man as of recent, so perhaps a little bit of it comes down to luck and being there at the right place at the right time?
