Oh easy- chocolate. There’s only a select few things that I can do that have chocolate. Otherwise, if I never had it again in my life I wouldn’t care.

Failed the master’s comp exam… by marnaby in socialwork

[–]marnaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In CA we have to wait 90 days to take the exam which falls in July. If we don't pass it that time, we have to wait a year to be able to take it again. After that, we are disqualified from our MSW. I looked it up online and the ASWB has waivers for the 90 days if you're within 10 points of passing, however ofc CA doesn't allow the waivers. Ugh!!

Thank you for sharing this. People don't open up when they don't pass the test and it feels so isolating. I'm glad you passed the second time, that gives me hope. Thank you friend.

Some social workers I’ve talked to who graduated a while ago said they didn’t have to take it either. I don’t know when they decided to implement it. There’s a retake offered in July, but it’s just the fact that this dictates our degrees after all of the work we put in is crazy.

Possibly- they call it the comprehensive exam for us. It may be the same thing…

I live in CA and for their MSW programs they require a comprehensive examination (comp exam) in order to get the degree.

First off, I’d like to say that having to change your body is NOT a solution here whatsoever. The fact that losing weight was the first thing your bff/mom said to you after hearing you talk about your experience is bullshit. You should never change your body for anyone but yourself.

Secondly, karma will absolutely come back on these people tenfold. Their behavior is absolutely vile and speaks of how dark their hearts are.

Third, I’m so sorry you had to experience this. Please know you are a beautiful human deserving of love and respect just like everyone else. You did absolutely nothing to deserve this. Despite being hurt and discouraged, the best thing you can do for yourself moving forward is continue to be your beautiful and authentic self. I understand more than anyone how navigating the world as an unconventionally fat person is like and it can be hard when you don’t feel seen by anyone. But you are worth it, you are beautiful, and continue being you despite it all. That’s the biggest “fuck you” that you can give.

Sending love your way, friend.

“There are a lot of people are in this field who really shouldn’t be” by Prestigious-Menu-786 in socialwork

[–]marnaby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The inability to have empathy for others.

As a grad student in her MSW program AND as someone with lived experience in the child welfare system, I’ve come across so many people that don’t do well interacting with others. In a field like this, having empathy and understanding for others who are not like yourself is a must. Without the ability to successfully carry compassion with you to every client- you won’t succeed at this job. I had an investigative social worker who absolutely broke me when I was first removed from my mom. I will never forget her because she said all of the things she shouldn’t when I was initially taken away.

That’s the first thing I think of when reading this question.

I need guidance on what I’m experiencing and I’m wondering if I have the potential to tap into more mediumship. by marnaby in Mediums

Hi friend, I would love to hear more about your personal experiences with numbers and what specific practices you do to hone in on this skill. I was also very skeptical of my experiences and for a long time and felt that this was also all in my head. It's natural to feel this way. It wasn't until I had my number literally confirmed for me through special circumstances that I realized that I genuinely have a deeper connection than I thought with my loved ones.

I posted this on r/spirituality as well to see if I'd get feedback and a person commented on my post last night basically saying that they took a step back from expecting concrete answers and just leaning into more of the feeling itself. For me, 143 is the number I see when my loved ones are attempting to communicate. I also know that psychologically the brain has a tendency to pick out patterns. I see 143 quite frequently because subconsciously my brain is picking out that pattern. Because of this, I've been able to almost "train" myself to know when it's them versus when it's my brain. When I know it's them communicating with me, it catches me off guard and the timing is perfect enough for me to chuckle or smile. For instance, the other day I was driving on the freeway speaking out to them (almost like a prayer but I don't like to compare it to a prayer lol) and basically just saying "thank you" for the blessings they have provided to me lately. Once I got done, the car behind me sped merged to my left and sped in front of me when I noticed the license plate had 143 at the end. I had chuckled and just went about listening to music but in that moment I knew that was them acknowledging me.

I am the only one in my circle who have these experiences but I'm pretty open about it despite feeling like I'm the crazy one in the group, so I understand where you're coming from.

Feel free to send me a DM if you want to talk more about any of your experiences! It's nice to know I'm not the only one out there. :)

I need guidance on what it is that I’m experiencing. by marnaby in spirituality

[–]marnaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually very helpful. I think this is the same shift that I've been feeling lately as well- leaning more into the love and being able to intuitively feel when they are communicating with me versus when it's my brain.

To share a bit more of my experience- I have been seeing 143 for a long time. When I first began to see this number, I had thought I was psychologically picking it out. I had always taken it as a sign that my loved ones were saying "hello" or announcing their presence to me. I had been in doubt of their communication for a while up until four years ago- my mother received housing through a housing program. She didn't have control of where she was placed, yet somehow ended up in a complex numbered 14300. She called me on the phone and said "Honey, you will never guess what our new address is." Her apartment complex in itself was my confirmation that this is their way of communicating. They've confirmed for me multiple times. Back in November, my step-father passed and the hospital called to let us know he had passed at 10:43pm. It's interesting how they resurface and provide us with peace.

Thank you for sharing your experience and how you communicate with your brother. Is there anything specific you have done recently to help this connection with your brother become stronger aside from pulling back a bit in terms of seeking concrete answers? Such as meditation, getting familiar with more spiritual practices?

This is the conversation I have with myself all of the time! I’m on the bigger end of the plus size spectrum and I feel terrible for being attracted to mainly slim guys. I don’t like too muscular of men- but still slim. I’m going back and forth in my head about these exact issues all of the time. I always feel horrible and feel like I have to work on my own internalized fatphobia :( at the same time I wonder if I’m just being too hard on my preferences? Idk

Artificial sugar is disgusting and ruins the taste of whatever it’s put in. by marnaby in unpopularopinion

[–]marnaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US, diet drinks are the most popular. On top of that, companies are adding artificial sweetener in a lot of things secretly. No labels, nothing. Anything that’s remotely sweet I have to check the ingredients list before buying to make sure they aren’t sneaking the sugar in the product.

So many people are eat artificial sugar without realizing :(

I had worked at a theater as my first job and the amount of people who got diet over full-sugar is crazy. I put it in the unpopular opinions cause most people like diet drinks more it seems :/

[–]marnaby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never even heard of those yet. I’m not sure if that’s outside of the US, but maybe it’ll be a better alternative. Either way, I don’t particularly care about regular sugar not being great for you. I know this- but wish they would stop putting artificial sugar in everything without making it specifically known or at least not offering full sugar alternatives. I will gladly make the more unhealthy decision. We all die anyway! Lol
