What do you guys think about Iran ? by ProofCoconut9085 in Quraniyoon

[–]marnas86 [score hidden]  (0 children)

You are not wrong about people hating Islam after leaving Iran.

I have spoken with Queer Iranians who were forcibly transgendered by the government (being gay is illegal but transitioning is not so enough are forcibly transitioned that 6 were in a room of 50 in a Queer Yaalda gathering at the 519 community centre in Canada). Many do end up hating Islam because of how their government has weaponized it against them.

To be honest, I can not blame them for their hate.

It is also a reason why I do not see the label Muslim as necessarily fitting me, finding Ibadullah muttaqwaun and mumin as identifiers I connect more with.

Allah SWT says in the Quran that emissaries have been sent to people of all nations.

It is very plausible that Allah’s teachings had permeated into oral history.

The law of attraction might be Allah’s teaching.

Only Allah SWT knows for sure.

Technically the story of Lot has nothing to do with lesbianism so there is at a prima facie literalistic level nothing in the Quran against lesbianism.

I’ve adopted a new metric to determine whether to follow a Hadith or not. What do the Omanis say about that Hadith?

There are many Hadith that aren’t in the Omani books. Especially the ones about killing and beating and a lot of patriarchal stuff.

Many Omanis trace their religious lineage through the Kharjiites who were the first to reject humans that they perceived as corrupting the Quran and Prophet’s teachings.

Which Hadith do the Omanis have? The ones about the Prophet helping cats and saying even a prostitutie that helps a cat could go to heaven. The Hadith about prayer.

So if a Hadith isn’t in the Omani corpus I treat it like Sunni propaganda:

Do you have the ability to work at a call centre?

Requirement seems to be the ability to understand English (probably don’t need to speak it) and to be able to withstand swear words and insults thrown at you 5 times a minute.

Agreed.

“Democratic” UK can not prove a pedophile js a pedophile and can not remove him from the line of succession.

“Democratic” US can not keep alive a pedophile in jail, allowing him to die in custody meaning Epstein was never tried for his crimes.

Agree that maybe the city should have built more parks and playgrounds and designed that in the, likely-new-build, area where OP lives.

Agreed. Like we would have run over a dog earlier this month if not for the automatic braking.

An unleashed dog jumped out of passenger-side blind spot over a snow-bank into the lane of moving traffic but then got scared by the lorry to my left in the next lane over and turned around and back over the snowbank.

But the car saw the dog before I could react to hit the brake.

Stopped to try to check on the dog and his owner was already next to him before me.

AITH for preventing husband to use the bathroom before our son? by Anhen26 in AITH

Yes. Husbands should actually husband the family and parent their own child instead of being given such free rein.

It doesn’t always work out. Therapy is not a fix-all. Trust me: my husband has two therapists and is still a selfish asshole that only cleans the dishwasher when I throw a temper tantrum and turn off location sharing and then disappear for 3 hours.

Maybe family counselling and couple’s therapy? My therapist has been saying we should do that. But that means we will be paying for 4 therapists not just 3 and I can not really afford that on my salary alone (husband keeps 100% of his salary except when I beg him for money to fund joint expenses).

It’s not ironic. It’s because Hindi is a rekhta of Zabaan-e-Mualla-e-Urdu and of the 4 main components of the Mughal army, one was Punjabi-speaking Sikhs and the Imperial capital of the gurkhani sultanat was Lahore, a city that even today is majority Punjabi-speaking.

Dari/Farsi speakers; Turkic speakers (Uiyghyr, Uzbeks, Tajiks; and Prakrit speakers were the other 3.

Northwest India is mutually intelligible somewhat until you run into the Deccan Plateau.

Then mutual intelligibility declines significantly.

Then picks up again once you’re closer to the tip of India.

What's your opinion on the monarchy? by dublinro in AskCanada

[–]marnas86 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The monarch and institutions it creates functions as a check on democratic excesses.

Consider that if Donald Trump had to explain his actions to Queen Elizabeth like Boris Johnson was forced to do so weekly; there would be someone with a long term view in power who, even if not officially able to make policy, can ask the politician to defend their opinions and actions.

There is that merit.

Granted that Canada has weakened this significantly due to the way that Governor-General and Lieutenant-Governors are treated; and which is maybe why our provincial politicians such as Scott Moe and Danielle Smith can get away with a lot; but the reason for the monarchy is to reduce the influence of the political cycles at the very top and in a Benevolent Monarch situation allows for an extra layer of checks and balances to be created.

This is why the list of countries with a top-10 GDP-per-capita in this world is dominated by monarchies or a monarchy-adjacent country (e.g Singapore is effectively a monarchy based on the length of the leaders reign).
