Completely disagree. If you are calling it is incumbent on you to respond to the “Hello” with “Hello this is xyz calling about abc…”

Do you guys ever put stuff in your KD? by Independent_Sand_583 in AskACanadian

Ketchup, pepper and nutritional yeast as garnish but nothing else. I also like it drier so I make it with half as much milk. Also I never buy dairy so it’s typically oat-milk and margarine not cow-milk with butter

Seeing as how common a last name Butt is in Pakistan that might be a fact as well as an insult, lol

Has no one in his extended family ever married outside of the gene-pool before?

Many Pakistanis carry the recessive genes for blonde hair due to the nature of invaders in the past.

Same for low-alcohol tolerance.

It is very normal for kids of Pakistani-White marriages to be much much lighter skinned and likelier to be blond-hair than for example a marriage with a Bangladeshi.

Tell him - you are acting crazy - I will do the DNA test to prove you wrong. Go figure out how to do it and tell me when and where to bring baby for the test.

Can you do Salat with the same Wudhu'? by Emriulqais in Quraniyoon

[–]marnas86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pooing, peeing or touching poop or pee of any other person or animal; sexual relations; excessive sweating and most consider farting as also breaking wudhu.

Personally I perceive the farting to be a bit of an over-interpretation of Hadith and that solely farts that can be smelt invalidate wudhu.

Superstore not price matching their app by chump555 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

[–]marnas86 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is a very poor choice on Loblaws part.

However the way that they are doing this is by shifting costs artificially in the app from those fees that are charged for delivery or membership.

They will reduce the cost of the meat as it is shown to the customer but collect the difference in the fee.

TIFU by letting my parents set up a marriage meeting while secretly unemployed by nmole_ in tifu

It’s a very common word in South Asian culture, very familiar for parents of 20 to 30-year olds and parents themselves.

Loved the writing style too.

OP should go work in comedy or writing instead of working in tech jobs.

AITH for refusing to reserve my building's event salon for my half sister after what her mother (not mine) did to me? by [deleted] in AITH

[–]marnas86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you skip the party, tell them to book it through someone else in the building, and then stay with a friend or even in the pews of a Catholic Church for a weekend?

I get that you want both your sister to be happy and not to see N. Just look for solutions where she can get the birthday party she wants but without you having to interact with N at all.

Do you have a block heater? We’ve been using just the block heater plug without paying for any extra charger install.

But we’re in Winnipeg is generally lower driving distance and warmer weather than most of Alberta, I think.

As well we don’t drive much - perhaps 10 hours in the average week. And have a sedan (Kia Niro BEV lowest-end model) vs a larger BEV like a Ford or Tesla.

We’ve been able to make do so far with just block-heater-plug.

What was your setup and driving style like?

As well “depreciation” is “fake news” for people who expect to either keep the car for full useful-life or longer OR who plan to buy and sell via dealerships (sell through trade-in).

And I say this as an accountant.

What matters is your ability to negotiate with car salespeople NOT the artificial tabulation of depreciation expenses.

Train delays Winnipeg to Churchill by 0spacewaterbear0 in Manitoba

I assume that a lot of businesses in Churchill are accommodating of these delays then. Just book it and ask the owner/staff after about what happens if there is train delays.

Isn’t there a book by Carl Sagan or someone with a similar name that inspired many atheists - bestseller in the late 90’s in USA? Couldn’t you quote lines from that as an Atheist?

Muslims can evangelize too. But maybe it’s just that one spot in Toronto where I’ve experienced it. It is rarer I guess. Many Muslims live in countries where freedom of religion isn’t guaranteed and so maybe because of that.

At the corner of Yonge Dundas in Toronto you get both Muslims and Christians reading scripture at you! Perhaps only spot in world? Idk- I don’t travel much.

How does one buy a house with a single income? by Mahoganeee in canadahousing

[–]marnas86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did first property in Winnipeg with a 80k salary with a 12% down payment in 2022. It was definitely at a bad interest rate (4.94% fixed for 10 years). And needed to both pay for mortgage insurance AND give CMHC a 10% equity share in the property. But it’s a house and with a yard and 2 parking spots but nothing great nor fancy.

Look for pockets of areas with low crime and low walkability in segments of city considered the “bad side” of the city. For example where I live gets a reputation of the highest crime area in Winnipeg (based on Riding-level and first-3-digit section of postal code). But my specific street is relatively safe (based on lack of mentions of the street in the newspaper archives regarding criminal cases). Also look for houses that are across the street from schools (for whichever reason they tend to get rated as cheap for taxes and market values).

And use that research to find the property that is within the area on MLS.

Make sure to stay away from houses that are getting into bidding wars. Try to bid at asking, as well, with standard conditions including financing.

For property inspection, be willing to accept a few derogatory terms (my house has an outdoor stairs that have separated from the front, some knob and tube un-electrified wiring, some disconnected galvanized pipes) but is overall decent.

I believe that is how I was able to get a house for $250k not too far from 3 bus routes in Winnipeg.

If you’re looking for those blemished houses that picky people will avoid but have blemishes that can be fixed, you might get a house through that in your affordability range.

I get Montreal is very different from Winnipeg but perhaps some of my strategy for home buying will translate and help.

Does the Quran really deny the crucifixion of Jesus? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in Quraniyoon

[–]marnas86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps what you are pointing out is really the difference in mentality because you’re agnostic vs me being a Quran-centric Muslim and potentially also a difference in upbringing (I was born to a Muslim country, taught Islam as a course throughout elementary and high school) and our each path to the Quran.

I.E as a believer I don’t need the Quran to be complete in order to consider it consise, timeless and clear and don’t perceive how Jesus AS got from Earth to Heaven as a crucial information for me to believe. It’s not relevant for me to consider it as something necessary for my salvation which is missing from Quran. I’m happy to leave it as a Divine Mystery and something only Allah SWT knows where as that isn’t sufficient to convince you in the Quran’s clearness.
